Caribedanza: The crossroads of Caribbean dances in Île-de-France
Since its creation in 2006, Caribedanza has established itself as one of the unmissable events for Afro-Caribbean dance lovers in Île-de-France. Located in Argenteuil (95100), in the multi-purpose hall on Boulevard Héloïse, this unique festival offers a total immersion into the musical and choreographic cultures of Cuba and the Caribbean every spring.
The founding idea of Caribedanza is simple and generous: to bring together renowned international dance instructors in one place for a day and a night, offering workshops open to all levels, from the curious beginner to the advanced dancer looking to perfect their technique. Fifteen hours of classes spread across four simultaneous rooms allow each participant to build a personalized à la carte program.
A Journey into Caribbean Dances
The range of styles taught at Caribedanza is exceptionally rich. It reflects the diversity and vitality of Afro-Caribbean cultures:
- Son Cubain: the mother dance, the cradle of all modern Cuban dances
- Salsa Cubaine (Casino): the social dance par excellence, in its Havana circular style
- Salsa Portoricaine (On2): with its precise footwork and sophisticated musicality
- Rumba afro-cubaine: between spirituality, sensuality, and percussion
- Cha-Cha-Cha: the elegance and fun of 1950s Cuba
- Conga: the collective and explosive Cuban street dance
- Reggaeton: urban energy from Puerto Rico
- Kizomba: Angolan sensuality with Creole influences
- Bachata Dominicaine: the melancholic and romantic soul of Santo Domingo
Renowned International Instructors
The pedagogical quality of Caribedanza relies on the care taken in selecting the instructors. Each edition brings together internationally recognized teachers from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Angola, the Dominican Republic, or trained in the best European salsa schools. These instructors transmit not only choreographic technique but also the culture, history, and soul of the dances they represent.
The Festive Evening: Ball and Concerts
After a day of workshops, Caribedanza continues with a grand festive evening that marks the climax of the festival. An expert DJ hosts the ball, accompanied by live Cuban or Caribbean artists. Salsa, son, merengue, kizomba, and reggaeton fill the room until the early hours of the morning. Showcases by professional dance couples punctuate the evening, offering demonstrations of striking technique and expressiveness.
This festive dimension is essential to Caribedanza's identity: Caribbean dance is above all a social and joyful practice, born in the patios and clubs of Havana, and it is this convivial and shared spirit that the festival strives to perpetuate in Argenteuil.
Twenty Years of Caribbean Passion
Since its first edition in 2006, Caribedanza has built a loyal community of Caribbean dance enthusiasts from across the Paris region and beyond. Over the years, the festival has hosted dozens of international instructors and trained thousands of dancers. It has helped make Argenteuil a recognized hub for world dances in Île-de-France, demonstrating the cultural vitality and diversity of this Parisian suburb.
