The great popular and colorful carnival of the prefecture of Essonne
The Carnaval d'Évry-Courcouronnes (91000) is one of the major popular gatherings in Essonne. A festive and free event for the whole family.
The Carnaval d'Évry-Courcouronnes is one of the most important and anticipated festive events in the prefecture of Essonne. Organized every year in spring by the City of Évry-Courcouronnes, it brings together thousands of participants and spectators in a colorful, musical, and participatory atmosphere.
The strength of the Carnaval d'Évry-Courcouronnes lies in its neighborhood-based organization. Several months before the event, the leisure centers and the Neighborhood Centers-Social Centers of the city mobilize children, teenagers, and adults to create costumes, floats, and decorations. This collective creative work is at the heart of the carnival's identity.
On the day, colorful processions depart simultaneously from all neighborhoods of the city in the early afternoon, to meet at the Place des Droits de l'Homme et du Citoyen around 4:30 PM. This is where all the creativity converges, in a beautiful popular gathering.
The Carnival program includes:
Évry, which became Évry-Courcouronnes after the merger with Courcouronnes in 2019, is the prefecture of Essonne, a new town created in the 1970s and marked by bold architecture (including the famous Cathédrale de la Résurrection) and a diverse and cosmopolitan population. The carnival reflects this diversity: costumes, music, and creations are inspired by cultures from around the world present in the city's neighborhoods.
For many years, the carnival has been one of the largest popular gatherings in the city. Young and old participate with enthusiasm, creating shared memories together that strengthen social bonds.
With its approximately 65,000 inhabitants, Évry-Courcouronnes is the most populous city in Essonne. It is known for its Cathédrale de la Résurrection (the only cathedral built in France in the 20th century), its university campus, its regional shopping center, and its stadium which hosts the cultural and sporting life of the territory.
