Comic strip festival in the heart of the Jura
Causons Cases à Cousance is one of the oldest comic strip festivals in the Jura, bringing together authors, artists, and scriptwriters every December in the Cousance Omnisports hall. For two days, the festival offers meet-and-greets with invited artists, themed exhibitions, activities, and a rich program dedicated to the 9th art. With over thirty editions to its name, Causons Cases has established itself as a must-attend event for comic strip lovers in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
Founded over thirty years ago, the Causons Cases à Cousance festival is one of the oldest and most enduring events in the world of comic strips in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Every year in December, the small town of Cousance, in the Jura region, hosts dozens of authors, artists, and scriptwriters from all over France to share their passion with the public.
The festival takes place over two days at the salle Omnisports in Cousance, a large space that accommodates autograph stands, exhibitions, and activities. The event is designed as a popular and friendly celebration, accessible to all audiences, from passionate collectors to families discovering the world of comics.
Each edition features a guest artist who creates the festival poster and has a dedicated exhibition. For the 2025 edition, it is Tatiana Domas who created the poster, featuring a Vouivre, a legendary creature from Franche-Comté that has become one of the festival's symbols. Alongside the guest of honor, numerous authors, artists, and scriptwriters participate in the festival for autograph sessions, meet-and-greets, and exchanges with readers.
The festival offers themed exhibitions on comic strips, highlighting works, techniques, or trends in the 9th art. Activities are organized throughout the weekend:
The Vouivre, a serpentine creature from Franche-Comté folklore, has become over the years an emblematic symbol of the Causons Cases festival. This legendary figure, half-woman half-serpent with a carbuncle on its forehead, embodies the link between the festival and the traditions of the Jura region.
Located between Lons-le-Saunier and Bletterans, the town of Cousance has forged a strong cultural identity thanks to its comic strip festival. The event contributes to the influence of this small Jura town and attracts visitors from across the region and beyond each year.
The Causons Cases à Cousance festival will return in December 2026 for a new edition. The program, guest of honor, and exact dates will be announced on the festival's official website.
