The Fougerolles Cherry Fritter Fair

Every third Sunday of September, Fougerolles-Saint-Valbert dedicates an entire day to its signature specialty: the cherry fritter. The fair is organized by the Fougerolles - Terroir et Traditions association, which includes both the Confrérie des Gousteurs de Kirsch and the Cherry Fritter Fair Committee.

The Confrérie des Gousteurs de Kirsch

The fair takes place on the day of the brotherhood's annual chapter, which was founded in Fougerolles with its first induction ceremony on September 17, 1991. Dressed in their ceremonial robes, the members are welcomed at the town hall starting at 8:30 am, attend the brotherhood mass at 10 am, parade through the town center at 11 am, and then head to Château Bresson for the induction ceremony at 11:30 am.

Market, Producers, and Entertainment

Over sixty exhibitors set up shop in the town center, offering arts and crafts, local produce, handmade goods, and regional specialties, including fruit, vegetable, and beverage producers. Musical and folk groups perform starting at 10 am, while volunteers prepare hundreds of cherry fritters throughout the town.

Fougerolles, the Land of Kirsch

Fougerolles kirsch has been recognized as an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) since the official decree was published on May 5, 2010. The appellation area covers eleven municipalities and includes over 10,000 cherry trees.
