Chouet'festival: Live performance for all children

Since 2006, Chouet'festival has been bringing families from Roannais together every year in February with a program of live performances and workshops for children. Created on the initiative of Roannais Agglomération and supported by La Cure, a cultural and tourist hub located in Saint-Jean-Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire, this young audience festival has become a major cultural event in the region.

A traveling festival in the heart of Roannais

The unique feature of Chouet'festival is its traveling nature. Initially presented in only four municipalities in western Roannais, the shows are now performed in nine municipalities of Roannais Agglomération: La Pacaudière, Mably, Montagny, Perreux, Renaison, Roanne, Saint-Haon-le-Vieux, Saint-Jean-Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire, and Saint-Vincent-de-Boisset. This cultural decentralization approach allows all children in the region to discover the world of live performance, closer to home.

Multiple artistic disciplines

The Chouet'festival program showcases the diversity of live arts for young audiences:

  • Object Theatre: original creations that bring everyday objects to life
  • Puppetry: string, glove, paper, or giant puppet shows
  • Circus: acrobatics, juggling, and clowning to amaze young and old
  • Dance: poetic choreographies accessible from the youngest age
  • Music: interactive musical shows and concerts for children
  • Storytelling: storytellers who transport the audience into imaginary worlds

Each invited company strives to nourish the imagination and curiosity of the spectators, with poetry, humor, and sometimes even a touch of magic. Workshops related to the shows are also offered to extend the artistic experience.

Twenty years of live performance for youth

In two decades, Chouet'festival has hosted over 150 companies on local stages, offering theater, music, dance, puppetry, and circus. The festival has grown and renewed itself while remaining true to its primary mission: to make live performance accessible to all children, from the youngest age, in a spirit of sharing and family conviviality.
