Cinécyclo: The cinema that pedals in the Haut-Jura
Cinécyclo is an association from Dijon that has invented an original concept: traveling cinema powered by pedaling energy. Each summer, in partnership with the Parc naturel régional du Haut-Jura, Cinécyclo organizes an open-air traveling cinema tour through the villages of the Jura massif. The screenings take place as part of the Rendez-vous du Parc, the PNR's summer animation program.
An ecological and participatory concept
The principle of Cinécyclo is simple and ingenious: the energy required for film projection is entirely produced by spectators pedaling. A bicycle-generator system converts mechanical energy into electrical energy to power the projector and sound system. Each spectator is invited to take a seat on the bike during the screening, thus becoming an active participant in the session.
Engaged and accessible films
The program consists of short and medium-length films selected for their artistic quality and educational value. The themes covered revolve around climate change, soft mobility, biodiversity, and the environment. The films are accessible to all audiences, from children to adults, and each screening is followed by a discussion with the public.
A week through the Haut-Jura
The Cinécyclo tour takes place over a week in August, with a stop in a different village each evening. The Maison du Parc in Lajoux is one of the iconic locations of the tour, but the mobile cinema also visits other towns in the PNR du Haut-Jura. Each evening is free and open to all.
A tool for territorial awareness
Beyond the show, Cinécyclo is a tool for raising awareness about environmental issues and the ecological transition. By pedaling to produce the energy needed for the screening, spectators gain a concrete and fun understanding of the value of energy and the importance of alternatives to fossil fuels.
