De l'écrit à l'écran 2026 — The 15th Anniversary Edition

The De l'écrit à l'écran festival returns to Montélimar from Friday, September 18th to Thursday, September 24th, 2026, for its fifteenth edition. This anniversary edition celebrates cinema at the crossroads of the arts and the ideas that inspire it, focusing on literature and the humanities through three pillars: what is written, what is said, and what is thought. Screenings, masterclasses, readings, and meetings will be held at the Palais des Congrès Charles Aznavour and the Les Templiers, Les 7 Nef, and Le Palace cinemas, alongside the Théâtre Émile Loubet and the Festival Village.

Daniel Auteuil, 2026 Prix de l'Écrit à l'Écran recipient

The 2026 Prix de l'Écrit à l'Écran is awarded to Daniel Auteuil. During the festival, he will present La troisième nuit, which he co-wrote and stars in alongside Antoine Reinartz and Grégory Gadebois. The award ceremony will take place on Monday, September 21st.

Éric Toledano and Olivier Nakache, 15th Anniversary Guests of Honor

The two directors and screenwriters will be present on Wednesday, September 23rd to celebrate the festival's 15th anniversary: a masterclass at the theater, a screening of their latest film Juste une illusion (starring Louis Garrel, Pierre Lottin, and Camille Cottin), a concert at the Festival Village, and a DJ set.

Literature in the Spotlight

Novelist Olivier Bourdeaut is the literary guest of honor for this edition, featuring Une histoire d'amour et de violence (Gallimard). The festival also welcomes Mathieu Persan for his novel Le Passage (Hachette Pratique) and Bethsabee Krivoshey for Le contraire de la pudeur. New for 2026: the Best Cinema Book Award, honoring a work dedicated to the seventh art.

Two Competitions

The "Cinema and Literature" selection brings together novel adaptations, while the "New Writings" competition evolves in 2026 into an international selection of six feature films presented as previews—first and second films—judged by a panel of six figures from the literary and cinematic worlds. Three prizes will be awarded: Best Feature Film, Best Screenplay (in partnership with the Scénaristes de Cinéma Associés), and the Pierre-William Glenn Award for Best Cinematography (in partnership with the AFC).

First Professional Meetings

On September 22nd and 23rd, 2026, the festival will host its very first De l'écrit à l'écran Professional Meetings, dedicated to the future of spaces for literary adaptation, new narrative trends, and the challenges of audiovisual creation, with industry representatives in attendance. Professional and student accreditations are now open on the festival website.

Key Figures

In 2025, the 14th edition brought together 33,800 spectators for 40 feature films, 32 previews, 140 events (including 55 free-entry sessions), 143 guests, and 8,153 students from 38 schools.

The full detailed program and online ticketing will be announced on August 27th, 2026.

De l'Écrit à l'Écran: Cinema Meets Literature

Created in 2012, the festival De l'Écrit à l'Écran is a unique cinematic and literary event in France, which each year explores the deep links that cinema weaves with literature. For a week in September, Montélimar becomes the capital of these two arts, welcoming directors, authors, actors, and thinkers to share their passion with the public.

An Exceptional Film Program

The festival offers a selection of about fifty feature films, including thirty in preview, often with the film crews present. Screenings take place at the Palais des Congrès Charles Aznavour and in various locations in the city. Cinema from around the world is represented, from auteur films to mainstream works, all chosen for their connection to the literary world.

Literary Meetings and Debates

In parallel with the screenings, the festival organizes over 80 meetings with authors, directors, and intellectuals. Masterclasses, round tables, readings, and discussions allow for a deeper reflection on the bridges between writing and image. More than 130 guests from cinema, literature, and the humanities participate in these privileged exchange moments.

A Strong Commitment to Youth

The festival is distinguished by its exceptional commitment to youth. More than 10,000 students and 300 classes, from primary school to high school, participate in school screenings, workshops, and meetings with professionals. This educational component makes "De l'Écrit à l'Écran" a major player in media and cultural education in the Drôme region.

Over 30,000 Spectators

With over 30,000 spectators per edition, the festival has established itself as a major cultural event of the back-to-school season in Drôme provençale. Its 14th edition in 2025 confirmed this momentum with 140 events, including 55 free access events: literary meetings, film encounters, workshops, and professional meetings.

A Festival in the Heart of Montélimar

The festival takes over the Palais des Congrès Charles Aznavour and numerous venues throughout the city of Montélimar. Screenings, meetings, and events are spread across cinemas, cultural spaces, bookstores, and cafes, creating a unique atmosphere where cinema and literature are experienced everywhere, on every street corner.
