Music in service of Romanesque heritage
The Été Musical d'Anzy-le-Duc is intimately linked to one of the most beautiful monuments of Burgundian Romanesque art: the Romanesque priory church of Anzy-le-Duc. Built in the 11th century, this church is famous for its historiated capitals, its sculpted tympanum, and its murals currently undergoing restoration. It is to contribute to this restoration that the association Les Amis de l'Église d'Anzy-le-Duc organizes a festival of concerts every summer, with the proceeds fully allocated to the monument's preservation work.
A remarkable acoustic setting
The Romanesque church of Anzy-le-Duc offers exceptional natural acoustics, shaped by eleven centuries of sacred architecture. Its barrel vaults, its round arches, and its harmonious proportions create an ideal sound space for chamber music, organ recitals, and vocal ensembles. The evening concerts, held in the nave lit by spotlights, offer a unique aesthetic and spiritual experience, where music resonates with the sculpted stone.
Classical, organ, and gypsy jazz
The programming of the Été Musical d'Anzy-le-Duc uniquely blends classical music, sacred music, organ recitals, and gypsy jazz. The 2025 edition is a perfect example, with an organ and soprano recital titled “Des siècles et des musiques” by Emmanuel Paziniack and Marlen Mendoza-Kahn, a violin and guitar concert “Paganini in Paris” by Jean-Samuel Bez and Raphaël Béreau, a tribute to Django Reinhardt in gypsy jazz by the Serendip Trio on the church parvis, and a free educational concert around Schubert's Octet by the Ensemble Lazarus in the Prieuré courtyard.
A friendly and participatory festival
The Été Musical d'Anzy-le-Duc cultivates an intimate and warm atmosphere. Free educational concerts, “Bœufs Jazz” open to all musicians, and guided tours of the Romanesque church complement the musical program and invite the public to actively participate in the festival's life. The small size of the village and the proximity to the artists create a sharing atmosphere that loyal festival-goers particularly appreciate.
