Eurofonik: European World Music Celebrated
Created in 2012 by the association Le Nouveau Pavillon, a venue for current European traditional music based in Bouguenais, the Eurofonik festival has established itself as a must-attend event for lovers of traditional and folk music from Europe. Every year in March, for about twelve days, the Nantes metropolitan area buzzes to the rhythm of Celtic, Scandinavian, Balkan, Mediterranean, and other European music.
A Rich and Eclectic Program
Eurofonik offers a program that celebrates the diversity of European musical cultures. From intimate acoustic concerts to festive amplified evenings, including traditional dances, multidisciplinary shows, dance and music workshops, masterclasses, conferences, film screenings, and storytelling sessions, the festival offers a complete immersion into the living traditions of the continent. Invited artists, from all over Europe, cross their influences to offer creative and bold music, rooted in popular cultures.
A Festival Rooted in the Nantes Region
Eurofonik unfolds in about fifteen emblematic venues in the Nantes metropolitan area: from the Château des ducs de Bretagne to Stereolux, including Pannonica, the Centre Chorégraphique National de Nantes, Trempo, Terrain Neutre Théâtre, Europa Nantes, and many other partner venues. Since 2025, the main venue of the festival is Portevent, a new cultural space supported by Le Nouveau Pavillon, located at 1 boulevard Henry Orrion in Nantes.
Le Nouveau Pavillon: The Driving Force
The association Le Nouveau Pavillon, founded in Bouguenais, is the driving force behind Eurofonik. Recognized as a venue for current European traditional music, it works year-round to promote, create, and transmit traditional European music. Its historic headquarters are located at Centre Marcet, 2 rue Célestin Freinet in Bouguenais, and it now also manages Portevent, its new cultural space in Nantes.
Growing Success
Since its first edition in 2012, which featured ten hours of non-stop music with 150 artists from over 15 European countries on 5 stages at La Cité — the Nantes convention center —, Eurofonik has continuously reinvented itself. The festival has evolved from a one or two-day format to an event spread over nearly two weeks, multiplying venues and formats to reach an ever-wider audience. The 13th edition in 2025 achieved a 95% occupancy rate on paid dates, confirming the public's enthusiasm for this living music.
