The Musée du Gévaudan Opens its Doors at Night

Every year in May, the Musée du Gévaudan in Mende participates in the European Night of Museums, a national event initiated by the Ministry of Culture. This special evening offers a nocturnal opening of the museum with a special program designed to provide a unique and unconventional visitor experience.

A Two-Part Program

The Mende edition generally takes place in two parts:

Afternoon: Workshops and Thematic Tours

From 2 PM, the museum welcomes the public with creative workshops organized in partnership with the association Mend'Arts. Guided thematic tours are offered at fixed times, allowing visitors to discover the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions from an original perspective.

Evening: Nocturnal Activities

In the evening, the museum transforms with fun and interactive activities: themed board game aperitifs, unconventional tours with a humorous tone, interactive installations on the ground floor such as the Cartomaton (personalized souvenir card) or the animated bear portrait that tells its story to visitors. The evening can conclude with a film screening related to the edition's theme.

A Free and Family-Friendly Event

The Night of Museums in Mende is completely free and is aimed at all audiences, from families to history and heritage enthusiasts. The relaxed atmosphere and interactive activities allow visitors to (re)discover the Musée du Gévaudan in a friendly and festive atmosphere.

The Musée du Gévaudan

Housed in a remarkable building in the heart of Mende, the Musée du Gévaudan preserves and presents rich collections covering the archaeology, fine arts, ethnography, and natural history of the Lozère region. Its permanent collections and temporary exhibitions make it a major cultural site in the department.
