About Fantastic Picnic
The Fantastic Picnic of Bibracte is a gourmet and sporting event organized every September at the summit of Mont Beuvray, on the archaeological site of the ancient Gallic capital. The event offers guided gourmet hikes of 7 and 10 km through the landscapes of the Grand Site de France, a market of local producers at the summit, a giant picnic with local Morvan products, all enlivened by concerts in partnership with Fleurs de Jazz. An exceptional picnic at the summit of Mont Beuvray
Every year in September, the archaeological site of Bibracte, ancient capital of the Gallic Eduens people, hosts the Fantastic Picnic. This unique event combines hiking, local gastronomy, and music in the majestic setting of Mont Beuvray, a Grand Site de France.
Gourmet hikes
The day begins with guided hikes starting from the Bibracte museum:
- 7 km route : Hike accessible to all, through beech forests and Gallic remains
- 10 km route : More sporting hike with passages through undergrowth and panoramic viewpoints
Registration is mandatory with the Bibracte museum before the event date. Hikers are guided by escorts who share their knowledge of the site's history, fauna, and flora.
The producers' market
From 12:30 PM, hikers converge on the summit of Mont Beuvray where a market of local producers awaits them. Visitors assemble their picnic by strolling among the stalls:
- Cheeses from Morvan and Burgundy
- Artisanal cured meats and terrines
- Honey, jams, and forest products
- Sourdough breads and pastries
- Local wines and fruit juices
The giant picnic
The heart of the event is the giant picnic at the summit, where hikers and visitors settle on the grass to enjoy the products bought from the producers. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, accompanied by live music.
Music and culture
In partnership with Fleurs de Jazz, the Fantastic Picnic offers live concerts that accompany the picnic. Jazz, folk, and world music create a festive atmosphere at the summit of Mont Beuvray.
The Bibracte museum
The event is also an opportunity to (re)discover the Bibracte museum, designed by architect Pierre-Louis Faloci. The museum retraces the history of this Gallic city which was the capital of the Eduens and the place where Vercingetorix gathered the Gallic peoples before the battle of Alesia.

Access
Mont Beuvray is located between Nièvre and Saône-et-Loire, 25 km from Autun and 27 km from Château-Chinon.
- By car : Via the D274 from Saint-Léger-sous-Beuvray. Free parking at the Bibracte museum.
- By train : Autun or Étang-sur-Arroux station, then a 30-minute drive.
