The arts rush into Bressuire: two days of free open-air performance
F.A.R — Festival des Arts de la Rue is a free open-air performing arts festival organized every summer by the City of Bressuire since 2022. For two days in July, the city center and the castle of Bressuire are transformed into an open-air stage, hosting professional local, regional, and national companies for street theater, dance, circus, music, humor, and visual arts. Accessible to all audiences and all ages, F.A.R promotes a vision of popular, festive, and free culture, where streets and squares become spaces for creation and meeting.
Since 2022, the City of Bressuire has been organizing F.A.R — Festival des Arts de la Rue, transforming the heart of the Bressuire region into an open-air theater every summer. The initiative, led by the city's Cultural Department, aims to make culture accessible to everyone by using public spaces—streets, squares, the castle forecourt—as venues for performance and conviviality.
For two days, professional companies from diverse backgrounds—local, regional, and national—share their art with the public in a warm and festive atmosphere. Street theater, dance, circus, music, humor, parades, visual arts, and participatory performances follow one another and intersect in the streets of the city center, offering a rich and varied panorama of contemporary performing arts.
F.A.R champions total freeness, allowing every resident and visitor to discover quality artistic offerings without financial barriers. This accessibility is part of the festival's DNA, which aims to reach the widest audiences—families, children, young people, those distant from culture—by meeting them in public spaces.
The festival also includes an educational component with a day dedicated to schoolchildren before the public opening. Artistic workshops—theater, drawing, music, sculpture, painting—are offered to students from Bressuire's public and private schools, allowing them to meet artists and be introduced to street arts.
The Château de Bressuire, an imposing medieval fortress with impressive ramparts, provides an exceptional setting for performances. Its walls, inner courtyards, and esplanade offer a spectacular backdrop for artistic performances, creating a unique dialogue between architectural heritage and contemporary creation. The city center, with its narrow streets, squares, and shops, completes this artistic discovery route through the city.
