The grand pyrotechnic and musical show on the lake of the Vosges
Every August 14th, the Féerie du Lac transforms the shores of Lake Gérardmer into an open-air theater for one of the largest pyrosymphonic shows in the Grand Est region. Heir to the nautical festivals inaugurated in 1898, this free event brings together tens of thousands of spectators each year around a festive program combining concerts, family entertainment, and a masterful fireworks display launched from the lake, illuminating the Pearl of the Vosges with magical bursts.
The Féerie du Lac de Gérardmer is one of the most emblematic summer events in the Vosges massif. Every year, on August 14th, the town nicknamed the "Pearl of the Vosges" welcomes tens of thousands of spectators to the shores of its famous lake for an exceptionally large-scale pyrosymphonic show. Free and open to all, this popular event is the highlight of the summer in Gérardmer.
The origins of this festival date back to August 15, 1898, when the first nocturnal nautical festivals were organized on the lake with illuminated boats, fireworks, concerts, and popular balls on the banks. The 1902 edition was the most attended of this pioneering era. Over the decades, the tradition has been perpetuated and enriched, making this celebration an unmissable event rooted in the identity of Gérardmer and Vosges tourism.
The highlight of the evening is the grand musical pyrotechnic show, lasting about 25 minutes, launched from the lake. Dozens of shells and several hundred kilograms of pyrotechnic material are used to create a sound and light show synchronized to an original musical score. The reflections of the rockets and light bursts on the calm waters of the lake offer a strikingly beautiful spectacle, enhanced by the mountainous setting surrounding the body of water.
The Féerie du Lac is not just about the fireworks. From the afternoon onwards, numerous family activities punctuate the day on the shores: country dance initiations, street performances, meetings with the mascot Jonqui, and activities for children. In the evening, a live concert by a variety orchestra sets the mood before the pyrotechnic show. After the fireworks, a dance party with a DJ extends the festivities into the heart of the night. Food and drink are available throughout the event.
Lake Gérardmer, the largest natural lake in the Vosges with its 115 hectares, offers a spectacular setting for the event. Nestled at an altitude of 660 meters, surrounded by fir forests and rolling mountains, it provides the ideal backdrop for a night show. The Quai de Waremme, the main viewing point, allows spectators to enjoy an unobstructed view of the entire spectacle.
The Féerie du Lac returns on Friday, August 14, 2026, for a new edition of the grand pyrosymphonic show on Lake Gérardmer. Program and theme to be announced soon.
