The first Occitan festival in Gévaudan
Fest'Oc is the first festival of Occitan culture in Gévaudan, organized as part of Total Festum in Marvejols. Entirely free and open to all, this festive and family-friendly event celebrates the Occitan language, traditions, and music through concerts, street performances, participatory workshops, and cultural activities. Supported by Le Trianon and the community of communes of Gévaudan, the festival attracted over 900 spectators from its very first edition and has established itself as a must-attend event for living culture in Lozère.
Fest'Oc was born from the desire to keep Occitan culture alive in Gévaudan, in the heart of the royal city of Marvejols. As part of Total Festum, the major Occitan culture festival supported by the Occitanie Region, this entirely free festival offers a rich and varied program each year in June, combining music, shows, workshops, and activities for the whole family.
The festival highlights the myths, tales, and legends, fantastic creatures, carnivals, and totemic festivals of Occitania and Catalonia. The musical program features traditional Languedoc sounds, notably with the fanfare Ocso, an ensemble of seven musicians playing oboes, clarinets, brass, and percussion in arrangements and improvisations inspired by the repertoire of Occitan popular festivals. The group Cabr'e Can also brings its festive and authentic touch.
Beyond music, Fest'Oc is a place for meeting and sharing. Visitors can participate in an Occitan dictation open to all in a warm atmosphere, discover exhibitions created by Occitanist students from local schools and colleges, or try their hand at Biodanza, tambourin, and pétanque. A women's rugby tournament and artistic gymnastics demonstrations complete the program.
A highlight of the festival, the Fire of Saint John show concludes the festivities, following the ancestral tradition of the summer solstice. This festive ritual, shared throughout southern France, brings together young and old around a large bonfire, music, and dances in an atmosphere of magic and conviviality.
Fest'Oc aims to be a popular, intergenerational, and accessible event. All activities are free, allowing everyone to immerse themselves in the richness of Occitan culture. The festival contributes to the cultural influence of Marvejols and Gévaudan, introducing a wide audience to a living and dynamic heritage.
Supported by Le Trianon, the cultural center of the community of communes, and by the Occitanie Region as part of the "Element'Ter" cultural season, Fest'Oc is a lasting fixture in the Lozère festival scene.
The 4th edition of Fest'Oc is expected in June 2026 in Marvejols, as part of Total Festum. The Occitan festival of Gévaudan will offer free concerts, shows, workshops, and activities to celebrate Occitan culture and language.
