The great festival of Morteau sausage in the Haut-Doubs
Every year in September, the Festi'Val de la Morteau celebrates the Morteau sausage, gastronomic emblem of the Haut-Doubs, in the heart of the town. Created in 2023, this 100% free festival brings together thousands of visitors around a gourmet market, open-air concerts, activities for everyone and the famous biggest sausage eater contest. Thirteen local associations and many volunteers from the Val de Morteau ensure the success of this festive and friendly event that highlights the Franche-Comté region.
The Festi'Val de la Morteau was born in September 2023, driven by the desire to celebrate one of the most emblematic products of Franche-Comté gastronomy: Morteau sausage, smoked with resinous wood in the traditional tuyés of the Haut-Doubs. In just a few editions, this festival has established itself as an unmissable event of the back-to-school season, attracting thousands of food lovers to the Place de l'Hôtel de Ville in Morteau.
For two days, the heart of Morteau beats to the rhythm of the festival. The program includes a gourmet market bringing together local producers and regional artisans, open-air concerts that liven up the square throughout the weekend, an autumn sale and numerous activities for young and old.
The highlight of the festival remains the famous biggest Morteau sausage eater contest, a moment of conviviality that brings together participants and spectators in a good-natured atmosphere. Children are not forgotten with inflatable structures, a playroom, face painting and dedicated activities.
The Festi'Val de la Morteau is distinguished by its strong territorial roots. No less than thirteen associations and many volunteers from the Val de Morteau join forces to organize this entirely free event. This collective mobilization demonstrates the community's attachment to its gastronomic heritage and the conviviality that characterizes the Haut-Doubs.
Benefiting from a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) since 2010, Morteau sausage is smoked according to ancestral know-how in the tuyés, these large pyramidal wooden chimneys typical of Franche-Comté farms. Smoking with resinous wood gives it its subtle aromas and unique flavor, which are the pride of the entire Haut-Doubs.
