The voices of the world at the Abbaye du Relec in the Monts d'Arrée
The Arree Voce Festival is a vocal music festival created in 2008 at the Abbaye du Relec, in the heart of the Monts d'Arrée in Finistère. Every summer, for five days in July, this magical place resonates with voices from all over the world: traditional chants, polyphonies, sacred music, and contemporary creations blend in an exceptional heritage setting. The festival offers evening concerts, morning concerts, singing workshops, singing walks, and family shows, highlighting the richness and diversity of vocal traditions across continents.
Since 2008, the Arree Voce Festival has invited the voices of the world to resonate within the majestic setting of the Abbaye du Relec, in the heart of the Monts d'Arrée. This unique festival celebrates the diversity of vocal traditions across continents, offering a sonic and spiritual immersion in an exceptional heritage site within the Parc naturel régional d'Armorique.
The festival's artistic program explores traditional, popular, and contemporary vocal practices from around the world. From Mongolian throat singing to Georgian polyphonies, from Celtic laments to African rhythms, Arree Voce offers an exceptionally rich musical journey. Each edition highlights artists from all horizons: Malawi, Tibet, the Baltic countries, Occitania, Galicia, Colombia, Brittany, and many other regions.
The Abbaye du Relec, founded in the 12th century by Cistercian monks, offers an incomparable acoustic and visual setting. Evening concerts take place in the abbey church, where the stone and vaults enhance the harmonics of the voices. The festival also extends to other heritage sites in the Monts d'Arrée: the church of Saint-Rivoal, the Domaine de Menez-Meur, the Maison de Penanault in Morlaix, and the interpretation center of the Guimiliau enclosure.
Beyond the concerts, Arree Voce offers discovery workshops allowing the public to learn about vocal techniques from around the world, singing walks in the moors and woods of the Monts d'Arrée, intimate morning concerts, and family shows accessible to younger audiences. These moments of sharing make Arree Voce more than just a festival: a true human and sensory experience.
The festival is designed by Chemins du patrimoine en Finistère in partnership with the Écomusée des Monts d'Arrée, the Parc naturel régional d'Armorique, and the associations DROM and O'Belle. This collaboration between heritage institutions and cultural actors makes Arree Voce a unique event, rooted in its territory while opening up to world cultures.
