Street arts in Pays de Morlaix
Les Rues en Scène is a summer street arts festival organized by Morlaix Communauté for over twenty years. Each summer, from July to September, it offers about forty free outdoor performances in the streets of Morlaix and the towns in the region. The program, focused on burlesque, circus, and street arts, favors forms accessible to all and regional companies. Day and evening shows, in the city center or rural villages, Les Rues en Scène makes the Morlaix region vibrate to the rhythm of street arts and performing arts.
Les Rues en Scène is a summer highlight organized by Morlaix Communauté to bring street arts closer to the residents of its territory. For over twenty years, this event has animated the streets, squares, and public spaces of Morlaix and surrounding towns with free and accessible performances for everyone.
Each summer, Les Rues en Scène offers about forty free shows, during the day or in the evening, for all ages. The program features burlesque, street circus, and public space performing arts, with a particular focus on regional Breton companies. The forms offered are varied: itinerant shows, acrobatic performances, street theater, clowning, giant puppets, street concerts.
Les Rues en Scène unfolds over several dates and in several towns. The core of the programming is in Morlaix, with performances every Wednesday in July and August, then the festival spreads to neighboring towns at the end of the season — Lanmeur, Lannéanou, Henvic, and other towns in the region. This traveling dimension allows live performance to reach residents, including in rural areas.
Les Rues en Scène embodies a popular and festive vision of street arts. The shows are designed to be accessible to everyone, without ticketing or reservations, in an atmosphere of conviviality and sharing. Artists perform up close to the public, in streets and squares, creating a unique proximity between creators and spectators.
This commitment by Morlaix Communauté to street arts dates back to the 2000s, continuing a longer history initiated in 1987 by Yvon Diraison. Over the years, Les Rues en Scène has become an anticipated summer event in Morlaix, contributing to the cultural animation of the territory and the discovery of original and surprising artistic forms.
The 2025 edition of Les Rues en Scène offers forty free shows from July to September. Morlaix on July 23 and 30, August 6 and 13, then Lanmeur on August 31, Lannéanou on September 7, and Henvic on September 14.
