Circonova — edition 2027
The 16th edition of Circonova runs from January 12 to February 6, 2027, in Quimper and thirteen other towns across Finistère. Eleven shows will bring together artists from South Africa, France, and Brittany, performing in big tops, theaters, and outdoor spaces. The festival kicks off with "Moya" by the South African Zip Zap Circus and concludes in early February with "Cloche" and "Si c'est sûr c'est pas peut-être".
Circonova 2027 — 16th Edition
For its sixteenth edition, Circonova continues its exploration of contemporary circus from January 12 to February 6, 2027. Eleven shows are scheduled in Quimper and thirteen towns throughout Finistère: Briec, Crozon, Douarnenez, Ergué-Gabéric, Fouesnant, Penmarc'h, Plogonnec, Plonéis, Pluguffan, Pleyben, Pont-l'Abbé, Plozévet, and Concarneau.
The festival opens with "Moya" by the South African company Zip Zap Circus at the Théâtre de Cornouaille, before spreading out to big tops and partner venues with "Pandax" (Cirque La Compagnie), "Mon Royaume pour un cheval" (Julieta Salz / Compagnie La Bossue), and "Si c'est sûr c'est pas peut-être" (Compagnie Takakrôar), which will be performed in several locations, including the theater's forecourt.
The program continues with "Huellas" (Olivier Meyrou), "S'assurer de ses propres murmures" (Collectif Petit Travers), "Umwelt" (Morgan Cosquer / Compagnie Endogène), "Thaumazein" (Jonathan Guichard & Lauren Bolze / H.M.G.), "Cadres" (Compagnie Aléas), and "Cloche" (Rémi Luchez / Des Clous), which wraps up the festival in early February alongside a final performance of "Si c'est sûr c'est pas peut-être" in Concarneau.
The festival is supported by the City of Quimper and the European LEADER program, and relies on a network of local partners: Le Terrain Blanc in Penhars, L'Arthémuse in Briec, L'Archipel in Fouesnant, Cap Caval in Penmarc'h, Le Triskell in Pont-l'Abbé, l'Avel Dro in Plozévet, the Haut Pays Bigouden community of municipalities, the towns of Pleyben, Plogonnec, Plonéis, Pluguffan, Crozon, and Ergué-Gabéric, as well as the Balles à fond circus school.

Circonova: Contemporary Circus at the Edge of Brittany
Circonova is the contemporary circus festival presented by the Théâtre de Cornouaille, a national theatre in Quimper. Every year in January-February, it unfolds its program of shows across a dozen towns in Finistère, between Quimper and the rural villages of Cornouaille, creating a true circus route between town and country.
Traveling Tents in Cornouaille
Circonova's originality lies in its traveling nature. The tents move from town to town, pitching their canvases in village squares and neighborhoods. This mobility allows it to reach a diverse audience, from urban centers to rural communities, introducing contemporary circus where it doesn't usually go. Briec, Crozon, Ergué-Gabéric, Fouesnant, Penmarc'h, Pleyben, Plogonnec, Plonéis, Plozévet, Pluguffan, and Pont-l'Abbé are among the towns hosting the festival.
A Panorama of Today's Circus
Circonova's programming explores all facets of contemporary circus: acrobatics, juggling, contortion, mime, aerial dance, live music. Invited artists come from France, Brittany, and internationally — notably Morocco — and blend circus disciplines with theater, dance, music, and visual arts. Each edition highlights unique creations and emerging companies, with particular attention to female artists and new circus forms.
Circonova's Free Events
A highlight of the festival, the "weekend givré" (frosty weekend) offers free shows at the Théâtre de Cornouaille and in the Kermoysan district of Quimper. These free-access performances allow everyone to discover contemporary circus without financial barriers, in a spirit of sharing and conviviality that is at the heart of Circonova's identity.
Fifteen Years of Circus in Cornouaille
Created in 2012, Circonova celebrates its fifteenth edition in 2026. In about fifteen years, the festival has established itself as a major event for contemporary circus in Brittany, recognized by the Ministry of Culture and acclaimed by industry professionals for the quality of its programming and its exemplary territorial reach.
