About Livre en Bretagne
Livre en Bretagne — edition 2026
The 37th edition of the Festival du Livre en Bretagne will take place on Saturday, October 24th and Sunday, October 25th, 2026, at the Espace Glenmor in Carhaix-Plouguer, from 10 am to 7 pm. This year's theme is "La Bretagne, puissance sportive / Breizh, ur vro a gar ar sport" (Brittany, a sporting power), with journalist and author Georges Cadiou serving as honorary president. Admission is free.
37th Edition — October 24th and 25th, 2026
The organizers announced on June 19th, 2026, that the 37th edition will be held at the Espace Glenmor, located on the Kerampuilh site in Carhaix-Plouguer, on Saturday, October 24th and Sunday, October 25th, 2026, from 10 am to 7 pm both days. Admission is free.
Theme: Sport
Following previous focuses on Scotland, Catalonia, Corsica, and Kabylia, the 2026 edition is dedicated to "La Bretagne, puissance sportive / Breizh, ur vro a gar ar sport." The honorary president is Georges Cadiou, a journalist, author, former sports reporter for France Bleu Breizh-Izel, and writer of some thirty books, many of which explore the history of sports. In his introductory text, he highlights traditional sports like gouren (Breton wrestling) and pole lifting, the passion of Breton football derbies, the region's cycling heritage with its four Tour de France winners, and the growing prominence of rugby in the peninsula.
Format
Over the weekend, the festival brings together around 100 Breton publishing houses, featuring works in both French and Breton, with nearly 300 authors present at their stands for book signings. Many publishers time their major releases to coincide with the festival. The organizers reported 10,000 visitors for the 2025 edition and are planning debates, round-table discussions, exhibitions, and screenings for 2026, along with a children's play area and on-site catering. The venue is fully accessible to visitors with disabilities.
Detailed program: Not yet published
As of mid-August 2026, the schedule, the list of attending authors and publishers, and the details of the round-table discussions have not yet been released. The organizer's website does not yet feature a 2026 edition page, and the "Program" section remains empty. In 2025, this information was published starting October 5th, two to three weeks before the event.

The Festival du Livre en Bretagne: a major event for Breton literature
Since 1990, the Festival du Livre en Bretagne has established itself as Brittany's most important literary fair. Born from the desire to promote Breton literature in all its forms, this event brings together novelists, poets, historians, linguists, illustrators, and publishers from all over Brittany and beyond every autumn in Carhaix-Plouguer. The festival has become a true place for literary sociability, a space where established authors and young talents, passionate readers and the curious meet.
A rich and committed program
Each edition of the festival offers a dense and varied program: round tables, conferences, meet-and-greets with book signings, public readings, activities for young people, and shows. The festival awards several prestigious literary prizes, including the Prix du roman, the Prix du livre d'histoire de Bretagne, the Prix Xavier de Langlais, and the Prix de la nouvelle en breton. These distinctions contribute to the recognition and vitality of literary creation in Brittany.
A bridge between cultures
One of the unique features of the Festival du Livre en Bretagne is that it invites a minority people or culture as guest of honor each year. Kabylia, Wales, Scotland, Catalonia, the Basque Country, and Corsica have all been honored over the years. This intercultural dialogue echoes Brittany's identity and linguistic struggles, placing the book at the heart of issues of memory, freedom, and exchange between peoples.
The Espace Glenmor, the festival's setting
The festival takes place at the Espace Glenmor, in the heart of the Kerampuilh site in Carhaix-Plouguer. This emblematic venue for Carhaix's cultural life offers a spacious and friendly setting to host publisher stands, signing areas, and various activities. Admission is free, reflecting the organizers' commitment to making culture accessible to all.
A human and associative adventure
Supported by the association Ti ar Vro and a team of passionate volunteers, the Festival du Livre en Bretagne embodies the Breton associative spirit. For over thirty years, it has contributed to the influence of Breton literature and the promotion of the Breton language, while also opening up to world cultures. The festival has grown while retaining its soul: that of a warm gathering where books remain a vector of social connection and discovery.
