Twenty years of hip-hop culture in Cornouaille
The CultureS Hip Hop Festival was born in 2005 in Quimper, driven by the association Hip Hop New School, created in 2002 by young urban culture enthusiasts. Since its first edition, the festival has continued to grow to become one of the major cultural events in Brittany, dedicated to promoting and celebrating all disciplines of hip-hop.
All facets of hip-hop
The festival is distinguished by its multidisciplinary approach, embracing all artistic expressions of the hip-hop movement:
- Dance: breakdance, popping, locking, house dance, and contemporary urban dances
- Rap and music: concerts, showcases, and open mic
- Graffiti and street art: murals, live painting, and exhibitions
- DJing and beatboxing: performances and workshops
- Parkour: demonstrations and initiations
This diversity makes the CultureS Hip Hop Festival a true panorama of contemporary urban culture.
The Battle New School International
The highlight of each edition is the Battle New School International, a breakdance competition that brings together the best dancers in the world. This battle, which has become a benchmark in the hip-hop scene, attracts competitors and spectators from all over France and abroad. The event takes place on the festival's closing night and is a breathtaking spectacle.
A festival for all audiences
The CultureS Hip Hop Festival is for all audiences, from children to adults, from novices to insiders. Discovery workshops offer introductions to hip-hop dance, graffiti, beatboxing, and DJing. Film screenings and conferences shed light on the history and issues of hip-hop culture. Performances by contemporary urban dance companies complete a rich and accessible program.
Hip Hop New School, a committed cultural player
The association Hip Hop New School, based in Quimper, currently supports nearly 480 students in the regular practice of hip-hop dance across 13 towns in the department. Beyond the festival, the association develops an educational department (dance teaching) and an event department (organization of cultural events and support for youth projects). Its commitment to democratizing hip-hop culture in rural and urban areas makes it a key cultural player in Finistère.
