The biggest music festival in France
Les Vieilles Charrues, created in 1992, is the largest music festival in France. Every summer, the Kerampuilh site in Carhaix-Plouguer hosts over 250,000 festival-goers over four days for an eclectic program mixing rock, pop, electro, rap, and French chanson. Driven by a team of passionate volunteers, this emblematic festival of Brittany has become a must-attend event on the European music scene, combining conviviality, artistic diversity, and a festive spirit for over thirty years.
Since 1992, Les Vieilles Charrues has established itself as the largest music festival in France and one of the most important in Europe. Born from a simple get-together among friends by the water in Landeleau, this exceptional human adventure has become a major cultural event, welcoming hundreds of thousands of festival-goers each year to the Kerampuilh site in Carhaix-Plouguer, in the heart of Finistère.
The strength of Les Vieilles Charrues lies in the diversity of its programming. Each edition offers a skillful mix of international headliners and discoveries, covering all musical genres: rock, pop, electro, rap, French chanson, world music, folk, and many others. Legends like Bruce Springsteen, Radiohead, Muse, David Bowie, and the Rolling Stones have graced the Kerampuilh stage, alongside emerging artists who enrich the contemporary music scene.
The Kerampuilh site, a vast meadow of several dozen hectares, offers a unique setting for the festival experience. With its multiple stages, food areas, free camping, and entertainment, the site transforms each summer into a true ephemeral city where conviviality and sharing reign. The organization, driven by the Association Les Vieilles Charrues and its thousands of volunteers, makes it a point of honor to offer affordable prices and to defend universal access to culture.
Les Vieilles Charrues is above all a human adventure. The association, founded by a group of friends from Carhaix, mobilizes over 7,000 volunteers each year to help organize the festival. This associative commitment makes Charrues a unique model in the French festival landscape, combining artistic ambition, affordability, and local roots to foster cultural and economic dynamism in Central Brittany.
On July 4, 1992, a handful of friends organized a party by the canal in Landeleau, bringing together 500 people. From this convivial village fair, one of the world's largest festivals was born. In 1998, the festival moved to the Kerampuilh site, which became its permanent home. Over the years, attendance has steadily grown: 5,000 spectators in 1994, 50,000 in 1999, 200,000 in 2007, reaching the historic record of 346,000 festival-goers in 2023.
The 33rd edition of Les Vieilles Charrues will take place from July 16 to 19, 2026, in Carhaix-Plouguer. Under the theme of a "Boreal Edition," the festival will offer a Nordic immersion with headliners such as Katy Perry, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Orelsan, Aya Nakamura, Mika, and Gims.
