Concerts of ancient and classical music in the Romanesque chapels of Erdeven
The Festival des Chapelles d'Erdeven is a festival of ancient, classical, and traditional music created in 2018 by the ensemble Les Voix Buissonnières. From May to August, concerts by professional musicians take place in the Romanesque chapels, gardens, and heritage sites of Erdeven, in Morbihan. With affordable prices and free admission for under-18s, the festival also offers singing workshops, artist meet-and-greets, and musical sharing moments in centuries-old heritage settings.
Created in 2018 by the vocal ensemble Les Voix Buissonnières, the Festival des Chapelles d'Erdeven offers a unique musical experience by resonating ancient, classical, and traditional music with the remarkable religious heritage of the town of Erdeven. Concerts take place in the Romanesque chapels of the area — including the chapels of Saint-Germain, Saint-André, and Lisveur — as well as the village church, offering spectators exceptional acoustics in places steeped in five thousand years of history.
The festival's program creates a dialogue between eras and styles: medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, classical, Breton and Celtic traditional music, and contemporary creations. Seven concerts by professional musicians form the core of the festival, complemented by singing workshops for all levels and artist meet-and-greets after the concerts, fostering exchange and sharing around music.
In addition to the main festival (May-June), a cycle of summer concerts takes place every Wednesday in July and August in the chapels of Erdeven. These free concerts, accessible to all, offer various formats: Celtic harp, polyphony, chamber music, lyrical singing, and world music. They are an invitation to discover the chapel heritage of Erdeven to the rhythm of music.
Erdeven, a coastal commune in Morbihan located between Carnac and Étel, boasts exceptional heritage. In addition to its alignments of menhirs (the Kerzerho alignments), the commune is home to several Romanesque and Gothic chapels that serve as natural concert halls for the festival. This secular heritage provides an immersive setting that enhances the musical performances.
The Festival des Chapelles is designed to be accessible to as many people as possible. Prices are kept low (from 6 to 16 euros) and admission is free for under-18s. Specific workshops for children and the elderly are offered, reflecting the festival's commitment to transmission and the democratization of live music.
