Large-format open-air photography festival on the Morbihan coast
Escales Photos is a unique photography festival that exhibits large-format reports on the facades of village houses along the Morbihan coast. Since 2013, this free festival has transformed the towns of Arzon, Locmariaquer, Plouharnel, Le Palais (Belle-Île-en-Mer), and Houat into open-air galleries, from July to October. The photographs, displayed on the walls of homes, tell the story, life, and richness of the territory and its inhabitants.
The Escales Photos festival, also known as the Festival du Mor Braz, is a singular photographic event that takes over the Morbihan coast every summer since 2013. Its concept is original: large-format photographs are hung directly on the facades of houses in the villages of five Morbihan communes, transforming public space into an open-air art gallery.
The festival unfolds in five communes on the Morbihan coast:
Each commune hosts one or more photographic reports, creating a discovery trail that combines photographic art and maritime heritage.
The exhibitions are the result of photographic commissions awarded to professional photographers from around the world. Each report tells a story related to the territory, its inhabitants, its traditions, or universal themes. The subjects covered touch on maritime life, food, landscapes, and contemporary issues of the Breton coast.
All Escales Photos exhibitions are free and open access, 24 hours a day, from July to October. This free and permanent accessibility is the strength of the festival: visitors, whether residents or tourists, can discover the exhibitions as they stroll through the villages.
Since its creation, the festival has produced 36 exhibitions, displayed over 750 large-format photographs, and commissioned photographic works from nationally and internationally renowned artists. This collection constitutes a remarkable visual heritage of the Morbihan coast.
Escales Photos is part of an initiative to promote coastal heritage and its inhabitants. The photographs, in dialogue with the facades and alleys of the villages, create an intimate relationship between art and the daily life of the places that host them.
New edition of the Escales Photos festival. Large-format photographic reports exhibited outdoors on the facades of the villages of Locmariaquer, Arzon, Plouharnel, Le Palais (Belle-Île), and Houat, from July to October 2026.
The exhibitions can be seen in five communes on the Morbihan coast.
All exhibitions are free and open access, 24/7, from July to October.
The exhibitions are visible from July 1st to October 31st each year.
