Festival of fantastic arts in one of the most beautiful villages in France
The En-Terre Fantastique Festival is a biennial event that takes over the medieval streets of Rochefort-en-Terre, listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France. Created in 2024, this free festival celebrates the fantastic imagination in all its forms: medieval-fantasy, steampunk, cyberpunk, fantasy, post-apocalyptic, science fiction, gothic, and singular art. The program includes street performances, concerts, conferences, a craft market, creative workshops, and exhibitions, all set within an exceptional heritage site.
Born in 2024, the En-Terre Fantastique Festival transforms the medieval village of Rochefort-en-Terre, voted "France's Favorite Village" in 2016, into a universe populated by imaginary creatures and fantastic characters. For a weekend, the cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, and Rochefort castle become the stage for a unique event in Brittany that blends visual arts, live performances, and unbridled imagination.
The festival embraces a wide diversity of artistic currents related to the imagination: medieval-fantasy, steampunk, cyberpunk, fantasy, post-apocalyptic, science fiction, gothic, tribal-ethnic, retro-futuristic, psychedelic, and singular art. This stylistic openness allows it to reach a very broad audience, from fans of geek culture to lovers of contemporary art, as well as families.
The En-Terre Fantastique Festival offers a rich and varied program: street performances and costumed parades in the village, open-air concerts, conferences and meetings with authors and artists, a craft market featuring artisans, illustrators, and costume designers, exhibitions of fantastic art, creative workshops for children and adults, and life-size games. The entire village transforms into a playground for discovery.
The choice of Rochefort-en-Terre as the festival location is no accident. This listed village, perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Arz valley, offers a setting naturally conducive to fantastic tales. The Rochefort castle, the Naia Museum—a museum of fantastic and visionary art—and the medieval alleys form an immersive backdrop that enhances the artists' creations and transports visitors to another world.
Conceived as a biennial and completely free event, the En-Terre Fantastique Festival aims to become a must-attend gathering for fantastic culture in Brittany. Driven by a team of passionate volunteers and supported by the municipality and local tourism stakeholders, it is part of the cultural dynamic of Rochefort-en-Terre, already renowned for its artistic events throughout the year.
Second edition of the En-Terre Fantastique Festival in Rochefort-en-Terre. The biennial festival returns with an enriched program focusing on fantastic arts: performances, costumed parades, a craft market, concerts, workshops, and exhibitions in the medieval streets of the village.
