The most beautiful Christmas illuminations in Brittany in an exceptional village
Every winter, Rochefort-en-Terre, voted Most Beautiful Village in France in 2016, is adorned with a thousand lights for 'La Magie de Noël'. From late November to early January, the medieval streets, half-timbered houses, and village squares sparkle with thousands of garlands, luminous stalactites, and shimmering curtains. This free event attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year to discover a magical setting, complemented by entertainment, a Christmas market, and guided tours.
For over twenty years, Rochefort-en-Terre has transformed itself each winter into a true luminous fairy tale. The 1,000 lights—sparkling garlands, luminous stalactites, shimmering curtains, and artisanal decorations—adorn the facades of the half-timbered houses, the paved alleys, and the squares of the village, classified among the 'Most Beautiful Villages in France'. The ensemble creates a magical and intimate atmosphere that has made Rochefort-en-Terre famous far beyond Brittany.
'La Magie de Noël' spans five weeks, from late November to early January, allowing visitors to enjoy this light spectacle throughout the holiday season. The illuminations turn on every evening at dusk, transforming a stroll through the village into a unique sensory experience. Weekends and school holidays see particularly high attendance, testifying to the attractiveness of this event, which has become emblematic of the Morbihan region.
Beyond the illuminations, 'La Magie de Noël' offers a program of varied entertainment: themed guided tours 'Christmas Magic', a Christmas market with local artisans and producers, a living nativity scene in the castle park, a carousel for children, and tastings of mulled wine, hot chocolate, and oysters. The village's shops and art galleries also remain open in the evenings, offering a unique Christmas shopping opportunity in an enchanting setting.
Conscious of its environmental impact, the organizers have implemented energy-saving measures: illuminations are turned off an hour earlier on weekdays and use low-consumption LED technology. This responsible approach aligns with the desire to combine Christmas magic with environmental respect.

The event generates exceptional visitor numbers during the off-season, supporting the activity of local businesses, restaurants, accommodations, and artisans.
