The popular and family-friendly festival of the imaginary in Ploërmel
Brocéliande Fantastic is a popular and family-friendly festival organized every year in Ploërmel by Ploërmel Communauté, for Samhain week. This free event celebrates fantastic universes by drawing on the mythical, cultural, and mystical riches of Brocéliande and beyond. On the program: literature, comics, cinema, music, theater, drawing, painting, and fest-noz. Each edition explores a different theme, combining artistic discovery and conviviality in an exceptional setting in the heart of the land of Brocéliande.
Since its creation, the Brocéliande Fantastic festival has established itself as a must-attend autumn event in Morbihan. Organized by Ploërmel Communauté as part of the Arth Maël cultural season, this free festival takes over the Halle des Sports in Ploërmel for three days, from October 31 to November 2, coinciding with the Celtic festival of Samhain, marking the transition from the light season to the dark season.
Each edition of Brocéliande Fantastic offers an original theme that guides the entire program. In 2024, the festival traveled "From Brocéliande to Latin America", exploring the traditions of Día de los Muertos and legends from across the Atlantic. Visitors discover a lively Brocéliande Fantastic Village in the afternoons, with creative workshops, meetings with authors and illustrators, film screenings, and live performances.
The festival highlights numerous artistic disciplines: literature and comics with signing sessions, fantastic cinema with commented screenings, live music with concerts and a traditional fest-noz, theater and performing arts, as well as drawing and painting workshops open to all audiences. Children have specially designed activities, making Brocéliande Fantastic a truly family-friendly event.
On the evening of October 31, Samhain Night is the festival's highlight. This free evening at the Halle des Sports features a grand fest-noz with traditional Breton music groups and bands with world music sounds. It's a moment of sharing and conviviality where dance and music celebrate the transition to the dark season, in the purest Celtic tradition.
Located in the heart of the land of Brocéliande, the festival draws its strength from this territory steeped in Arthurian legends and mysteries. The proximity of the forest of Brocéliande, the Val sans Retour, and the tomb of Merlin gives the event a special dimension, where the fantastic is never far from reality. The festival actively contributes to the cultural influence of Ploërmel Communauté and attracts an ever-growing family audience each year, from all over Morbihan and beyond.
The Brocéliande Fantastic festival returns to Ploërmel for a new edition centered on the imaginary and the fantastic, from October 31 to November 2, 2026. Brocéliande Fantastic Village, Samhain Night, workshops, shows, and fest-noz are on the program.
