Biodiversity at the heart of the Lorient estuary

The Terre d'Oiseaux Festival celebrates the exceptional ornithological richness of the Petite Mer de Gâvres and the Pen Mané marsh, two remarkable natural areas located in the Lorient estuary. Every autumn, these wetlands welcome thousands of migratory birds coming to winter, offering a fascinating natural spectacle.

A festival to observe and understand

Organized by Lorient Agglomération in partnership with Sellor, the association Bretagne Vivante, and other local partners, the festival offers about thirty free activities spread over four days in five towns in the estuary:

  • Guided ornithological outings to observe migratory birds in their natural habitat
  • Artistic workshops on the theme of birds
  • Screenings of documentary films on fauna and nature
  • Conferences with ornithologists and naturalists
  • Photographic exhibitions on the birds of the estuary
  • Shows and storytelling for young audiences
  • Building workshops for feeders and birdhouses

Iconic reception venues

The festival takes place in emblematic locations of the territory: the Maison de l'Île Kerner, a former oyster farming house in the heart of the Petite Mer de Gâvres, the Maison Glaz in Gâvres, the Observatoire du Plancton in Port-Louis, and the Maison Germaine Tillon in Plouhinec. These spaces become reception and discovery points for the general public.

A commitment to biodiversity

The Terre d'Oiseaux Festival is part of the mission of management and enhancement of the Natura 2000 site of the Lorient estuary, led by Lorient Agglomération. By raising public awareness of the ornithological richness of the territory, the festival contributes to the preservation of these fragile natural spaces and the species that inhabit them.

A festival accessible to all

All festival activities are free, making nature discovery accessible to as many people as possible. The events are aimed at all audiences, from children to experienced naturalists, with adapted levels of support.
