The great gastronomic festival of artisanal andouille in Morbihan
The Fête de l'Andouille de Guémené-sur-Scorff is a gastronomic and festive event that celebrates the flagship product of this Small Town of Character in Morbihan every August. Initiated over 30 years ago by members of the andouille brotherhood, this popular festival offers a local market, a procession of the brotherhood, a traditional andouille-and-mashed-potatoes meal, Celtic circle performances, fest-deiz, fest-noz, concerts, and bagad in an authentic Breton festive atmosphere.
The andouille de Guémené-sur-Scorff is one of the most emblematic gastronomic products of Brittany. Made according to artisanal know-how passed down from generation to generation, this beechwood-smoked andouille is distinguished by its characteristic concentric rings, visible when sliced. It is this exceptional product that the Fête de l'Andouille honors every summer in the streets of this Small Town of Character in Morbihan.
The Fête de l'Andouille was initiated over 30 years ago by the members of the Confrérie de l'Andouille de Guémené (Guémené Andouille Brotherhood). This gastronomic brotherhood, guardian of traditional know-how, orchestrates the costume procession which is one of the highlights of the festival. The brothers, dressed in their ceremonial robes, parade through the streets of Guémené in procession, inducting new members in a ceremony that is both solemn and convivial.
The local market brings together local producers and artisans who present their specialties: andouilles, of course, but also cider, crepes, honey, cheeses, and other products from Morbihan. The traditional andouille-and-mashed-potatoes meal, served outdoors, brings together hundreds of guests around the local specialty in a popular festive atmosphere.
The Fête de l'Andouille is more than just a gastronomic event: it is a true Breton festival. The program includes performances by cercle celtique (Celtic circle), bagad (Breton pipe band), a fest-deiz (daytime folk gathering), a fest-noz (night folk dance) in the evening, concerts, and numerous activities for all audiences. The Breton mass on Sunday morning, led by the musicians, adds a spiritual and heritage dimension to the event.
Guémené-sur-Scorff, labeled a Small Town of Character, offers a remarkable heritage setting for this festival. Its medieval streets, half-timbered houses, and the bridge spanning the Scorff river form a picturesque backdrop. The town still has several artisanal charcuteries perpetuating the andouille tradition, making this gastronomic celebration an event deeply rooted in its territory.
