Free open-air jazz festival in Pont-l'Abbé
The Snap Jazz Festival is a free jazz festival that enlivens Pont-l'Abbé, the capital of Pays Bigouden, every end of August. Created in 2019 by the association Snap Jazz, it offers seven free concerts over three days at Square Excelsior and Bois Saint-Laurent, followed by a closing jam session. Gypsy jazz, New Orleans, Chicago blues, afrobeat, and Balkan music follow one another in a friendly open-air atmosphere.
Every end of August, the century-old trees of Bois Saint-Laurent and the charming Square Excelsior in Pont-l'Abbé resonate with jazz notes for the Snap Jazz Festival. This free festival, created in 2019 by the Snap Jazz association, has won the hearts of locals and visitors by offering a quality musical moment, accessible to all, in the green setting of Pont-l'Abbé's town center.
The Snap Jazz Festival programs seven free concerts spread over three days, from Friday to Sunday. The program embraces the richness of jazz in all its diversity: gypsy jazz, New Orleans, be-bop, vocal jazz, Chicago blues, afrobeat, and Balkan influences follow one another on stage, offering an eclectic panorama of this lively and inventive music. The 2025 edition notably featured the Soultime Trio (jazz-funk, film music, calypso), a New Orleans band, singer Marianne Solivan with her international quartet, the duo Two Roots and Sweet Screamin' Jones (Chicago blues), guitarist Erwan Vollant's quintet, and the eight-musician Matahari combo in an afrobeat style.
The festival takes over the most beautiful green spaces in the town center. On Friday, concerts are held at Square Excelsior, a small green haven conducive to initial musical discoveries. On Saturday and Sunday, the stage moves to Bois Saint-Laurent, a vast wooded park that hosts concerts in a bucolic atmosphere, with bar and catering on site. On Sunday afternoon, an oyster tasting accompanies the concerts, blending taste and musical pleasures.
Each edition concludes on Sunday evening with a closing jam session at the bar-restaurant Le Quinze, where festival musicians and local jazzmen gather to improvise together in a warm and informal atmosphere. This moment of spontaneous musical sharing embodies the friendly and participatory spirit of the Snap Jazz Festival.
The Snap Jazz Festival is the result of the commitment of the Snap Jazz association and its volunteers, who work each year to offer a free, quality event in Pont-l'Abbé. The festival benefits from the support of the Mairie de Pont-l'Abbé and local partners, confirming its place in the cultural life of the Bigouden capital. With its seventh edition in 2025, Snap Jazz is firmly established in the landscape of Breton jazz festivals.
