The festival of Breton culture and language in Brest
Every autumn, in early November, Brest celebrates Breton culture and language during the Deus'ta ! festival (“Come!” in Breton). Born in 2018 for the 40th anniversary of the associative school Diwan de Brest, this event has quickly become a must-attend for all lovers of Brittany, its language, and its traditions.
The unique feature of Deus'ta ! is its multi-site format. Over four days, the festival takes over Brest's most emblematic performance venues: La Carène, the Cabaret Vauban, the Mac Orlan, and especially the Ateliers des Capucins, former workshops of the French Navy converted into a cultural space. This itinerant approach allows it to reach diverse audiences and resonate Breton culture throughout the city.
The Deus'ta ! program combines concerts of traditional and contemporary Breton music, fest-noz, children's shows (Festig), Breton wrestling (gouren), Breton games, escape games in Breton, radio shows in the Breton language, and introductory workshops. A village of Breton associations and food stalls complete the offering, creating a true living and sharing space around the Breton language.
Supported by a dedicated association created in 2020, Deus'ta ! is the result of collaboration between the Diwan de Brest school, Div Yezh Brest (public bilingual classes), Sked (Breton language and culture house), and the Skolaj du Releg. The event relies on the commitment of dozens of passionate volunteers, determined to promote the Breton language in urban areas and make it accessible to all.
The 9th edition of Deus'ta ! will be held in early November 2026 in Brest. The festival will once again take over the city's emblematic venues to celebrate Breton culture and language. Program to be announced.
