The young audience festival that awakens the imagination in Gençay
Born in 2010 on the initiative of the Centre Culturel La Marchoise, the Festival Art et Imaginaire has established itself over the years as a major cultural event in the south of the Vienne region. Each year, for several weeks, the cultural center of Gençay transforms into an artistic exploration space designed for children and families. The festival aims to democratize access to culture in rural areas by offering a rich and varied program entirely focused on imagination.
One of the festival's strengths lies in the constant renewal of its themes. Each edition explores a different universe: illusions, movement, travel, dance... These are all entry points to artistic creation that allow for a playful and immersive experience. The works exhibited, whether by professional artists or created as part of participatory workshops, revolve around this common thread and invite young and old alike to see the world with fresh eyes.
The Festival Art et Imaginaire is not limited to exhibitions. It offers a complete program combining live performances for young audiences, storytelling sessions, creative workshops (basketry, crafts, visual arts), and interactive activities. The shows, presented in the Gençay town hall, feature renowned companies specializing in young audiences. The workshops, led by guest artists, allow children to discover various artistic techniques.
Supported by a passionate team and local authorities, the festival plays an essential role in the cultural life of the Civraisien en Poitou region. By offering very affordable prices—the exhibition is free and shows are at a low cost—it helps make culture accessible to the greatest number. Since its creation, the Festival Art et Imaginaire has built a loyal family audience that returns each year with enthusiasm to discover the new theme.
The Festival Art et Imaginaire returns for its 17th edition on the theme of movement and rotation. From February 24 to March 21, 2026, the playful journey features works by Jacky Audouin (Foucault's Pendulum), Elli Drouilleau (kinetic sculptures), Dominique Corbin (automata), and Vincianne Ducharlet (basketry). The inauguration on March 6 at 6 PM is followed by the show "Tamis" by Compagnie Le loup qui zozote, at 8 PM in the town hall. Basketry and craft workshops complete the program.
