Montcuq Festival of Chanson à Texte

A Festival Born from a Passion for Author-Songwriting

The Festival de la Chanson à Texte de Montcuq was born in 2005 from the meeting between actor Henri Courseaux, Claire de Villaret, and the association Musique Cours et Granges, founded around a private concert held in a courtyard in Quercy Blanc. The original idea: to offer three consecutive days of author-songwriting concerts, every summer at the end of July, in the enchanting setting of Montcuq-en-Quercy-Blanc.

A Demanding and Eclectic Program

Over the years, the festival has established itself as a benchmark for francophone author-songwriting, recognized for the quality of its programming. Under the artistic direction of Gérard Morel, who took the helm in 2020, the festival hosts established artists and young talents each year. Among the artists who have marked recent editions are Juliette, François Morel, Alexis HK, Benoît Dorémus, Chanson Plus Bifluorée, Steve Normandin, Govrache, Yoanna, and Lili Cros et Thierry Chazelle. The program mixes committed songwriters, stage poets, slam artists, and performers from diverse backgrounds, offering the public a unique musical experience.

Three Daily Events

Each day of the festival is punctuated by three highlights:

• Late Morning Encounter (11:30 AM, Place de la Mairie): An informal and friendly moment where the public can freely interact with the programmed artists.
• Singing Café (4 PM-6 PM): Six to eight singer-songwriters take turns presenting three songs each before a jury that awards a "favorite," programmed as the opening act for a concert the following year. These discovery sessions welcome a total of about twenty artists over the three days.
• Open-Air Concert (9 PM, Courtyard of Jean-Jacques Faurie College): Two artists per evening perform in the main courtyard of the college, under the stars of Quercy Blanc.

A Friendly and Family Spirit

The Festival de la Chanson à Texte de Montcuq is known for its warm and accessible atmosphere. Its family-friendly welcome, the proximity between artists and the public, and its openness to a mixed audience of different origins and ages make it unique. The festival is supported by the association Musique Cours et Granges and numerous volunteers, under the presidency of Martin Bygate.

A Village in the Heart of Quercy Blanc

Montcuq-en-Quercy-Blanc, a commune in the Lot department nestled in the hills of Quercy Blanc, offers an ideal setting for this open-air festival. The village, made famous by a sketch by Daniel Prévost, is also a place of culture and heritage. Festival-goers are invited to use the free public parking available in the village and to reach the festival site on foot in a few minutes, embracing a summer stroll.
