The meeting point for cinema and youth in the Black Périgord
The Sarlat Film Festival is a film festival created in 1991 in Sarlat-la-Canéda, in Dordogne. Its unique feature is hosting 600 high school students specializing in cinema-audiovisual, from all over France, to meet professionals in the seventh art. Every November, the festival offers preview screenings, special screenings, masterclasses, and meetings with directors and actors.
The Sarlat Film Festival was born in 1991, following the creation in 1986 of a cinema option in French high schools. It is the only cultural event offering high school students specializing in cinema-audiovisual an educational program centered around the films studied for the baccalaureate.
Each autumn, nearly 600 high school students and their teachers converge on Sarlat for an immersion into the world of cinema. They mingle with directors, actors, screenwriters, and technicians during screenings, masterclasses, and round tables. The festival also welcomes several thousand spectators to celebrate cinema and its history.
The festival offers preview screenings, special screenings, cine-concerts, and meetings with film crews. The program highlights French and international cinema, with a particular focus on works intended to enrich the cinematic culture of younger generations.
The 35th edition of the Sarlat Film Festival is expected in early November 2026 with its program of preview screenings, meetings, and cinematic workshops.
The Sarlat Film Festival will return for its 35th edition in November 2026. The exact dates and program will be announced on the official website festivaldufilmdesarlat.com.
The festival takes place in the city center of Sarlat-la-Canéda (24200), in the cinemas and cultural venues of the city.
Screenings are ticketed. Consult the official website for ticketing information.
