The only festival in France dedicated exclusively to humorous comic strips, in Burzet in Ardèche
The Burzet Humour Comic Strip Festival is a unique event in France, entirely dedicated to humorous comic strips. Organized since 2003 by the association Les Riboules Dingues, this event is held every year in October in the Cévenol village of Burzet, in the heart of Ardèche. The festival brings together about ten professional humor and comic strip artists for signing sessions, exhibitions, drawing workshops, and short film screenings. Free admission.
The Burzet Humour Comic Strip Festival is the only festival in France entirely dedicated to humorous comic strips. Following an original concept, it brings together professionals in humor drawing, press drawing, and humorous comic strips with an audience of all ages each year, in the picturesque setting of the Cévenol village of Burzet, in Ardèche.
The festival is organized by the association Les Riboules Dingues, born from the desire to create this cultural event in Burzet. Since the first edition in 2003, the association has passionately and voluntarily organized the festival, inviting about ten professional authors and illustrators specializing in graphic humor each year. In 2024, the festival celebrated its 21st edition, confirming the longevity and appeal of this original event.
The festival program includes signing sessions with the attending authors, exhibitions showcasing the behind-the-scenes of humorous comic strip creation, drawing workshops for young and old, story readings for children, and short film screenings. All activities take place at the Espace Astier, the village's multi-purpose hall, on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm. A specialized bookstore is also present on site.
A unique feature of the festival is a marked trail that crosses the village of Burzet and retraces, year after year, the complete history of the festival through reproductions of posters and drawings from previous editions. This cultural walk allows visitors to discover both the heritage of the Cévenol village and the graphic universe of the artists who have participated in the festival since its creation. Each year, a new artist creates the official poster for the festival, such as Claire Bouilhac in 2024 with a hiking theme.
Burzet is a typical village of the Ardèche Cévennes, nestled in the Bourges valley, in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Monts d'Ardèche. Its stone houses, steep alleys, and medieval bridge offer an authentic and charming setting for the festival. Admission is free, in line with the organizers' commitment to making culture accessible to all.
