A festival by the Chalain lake

Born from the desire of the Departmental Council of Jura to extend the Jura summer just before the start of the school year, the Festival 39 Août made a remarkable entrance into the Franche-Comté festival scene during its first edition in 2019. Located at the Domaine de Chalain, on the shores of Lake Chalain in Doucier, the festival benefits from a magical natural setting between water, forests, and the Jura mountains.

A name that brings a smile

The name 39 Août is a playful nod: 39 refers to the number of the Jura department, and August 39 is a date that doesn't exist on the calendar. As the organizers explain: "Here, it's the Jura", where we know how to push the boundaries of summer with humor and creativity.

An eclectic and electric program

The festival offers a deliberately eclectic program, mixing genres and generations:

• Rock and pop: bands like Skip the Use and Eagle-Eye Cherry set the stage ablaze with their infectious energy.
• Rap and hip-hop: Bigflo & Oli made festival-goers vibrate with their unifying hits.
• Electro and DJs: Martin Solveig got the crowd dancing until the end of the night with a festive DJ set.
• Discoveries: emerging artists and winners of the Mytremplin competition complete the lineup.

An intergenerational event

The Festival 39 Août aims to be accessible and intergenerational. With attractive prices (2-day pass at 35 euros for the first edition), the festival targets families, young adults, and contemporary music lovers alike. The festive atmosphere by the lake, free shuttles, and camping contribute to creating an event open to all.

The Domaine de Chalain offers an incomparable setting for an outdoor festival. Lake Chalain, the largest natural lake in the Jura, is surrounded by cliffs and forests that create a natural amphitheater. Festival-goers enjoy this classified site to combine swimming during the day and concerts in the evening, in a unique atmosphere between nature and music.
