The living heritage of Jean Ferrat
The Festival Jean Ferrat was created in 2011 in Antraïgues-sur-Volane, one year after the disappearance of the singer, poet, and humanist Jean Ferrat (1930-2010). This perched village in the haute Ardèche, where Ferrat spent the last decades of his life, has become a place of pilgrimage for lovers of French song. The festival was born from the desire to perpetuate the spirit of Jean Ferrat: the defense of French song in its cultural diversity and freedom of expression.
Three days of French song in July
Every year, on the third weekend of July, the festival takes over the Place de la Résistance and the alleys of the village of Antraïgues for three days of concerts, showcases, open stages, workshops, and conferences. The program highlights both established artists and emerging talents of French song, in a friendly and warm atmosphere. Some of the shows are free, making the festival accessible to all.
A springboard for young artists
One of the festival's missions is to support young French song artists. The showcase allows new talents to perform in front of a passionate audience and a jury of professionals. The open stage offers a space for free expression where anyone can share their passion for song. These initiatives embody the spirit of sharing and transmission dear to Jean Ferrat.
Antraïgues, a village of character
Nestled at an altitude of 470 meters, at the confluence of three rivers, Antraïgues-sur-Volane is an Ardèche village of character with steep alleys and basalt houses. Jean Ferrat's attachment to this village, which he celebrated in his song « La Montagne », has made it a symbol of authentic Ardèche. The Maison Jean Ferrat, open to the public, complements the cultural offerings of the village and the festival.
An associative and committed festival
Organized by the association Jean Ferrat Culture et Chansons, the festival is driven by passionate volunteers. It defends values of commitment, humanism, and conviviality. The 2026 edition, the 15th, will be held on July 10, 11, and 12, 2026, confirming the sustainability and success of this event, which has become a must-attend for French song in Ardèche.
