Every year, on June 21st, the summer solstice, the historic center of Le Puy-en-Velay transforms into a vast space for concerts and musical entertainment for the Fête de la Musique. This popular and entirely free event, organized by the City of Le Puy-en-Velay in partnership with the Communauté d'Agglomération and the Conservatoire Les Ateliers des Arts, offers a rich and diverse program that makes all of Haute-Loire vibrate.

An eclectic program in the heart of heritage

The Fête de la Musique in Le Puy-en-Velay stands out for the diversity of its musical styles: rock, French chanson, variety, jazz, folk, tango, flamenco, gospel, sacred music, choirs, country, blues, techno, and world music. Artists take over numerous emblematic locations in the city: the majestic Place du Breuil, where headliners perform in the evening, the Place du Plot with its lively terraces, the Place Cadelade dedicated to Argentine tango, the Place Guy François for choirs, the Marché couvert, and of course the Notre-Dame du Puy Cathedral, which hosts vocal ensembles and sacred music in an exceptional setting.

An event rooted in local life

True to the original spirit of the Fête de la Musique, the event in Le Puy-en-Velay makes it a point of honor to promote local artists and talents from Haute-Loire. Bands from the region, students from the Conservatoire Les Ateliers des Arts, choirs like A Coeur Joie or Taulha'Quoi, ensembles from the Maîtrise de la Cathédrale, and amateur groups share the stages with invited artists. Stages throughout the city

From morning until late at night, music resonates throughout the hyper-center of Le Puy-en-Velay. Concerts begin in the morning with students from the Conservatory on the steps of the Cathedral, continue in the afternoon on various squares and in the bars of the city center like L'Imprévu or The Black Pearl, before culminating in the evening with concerts on the Place du Breuil which gather several thousand spectators. The city center is pedestrianized for the occasion, allowing festival-goers to wander freely from one stage to another in a friendly and festive atmosphere.

The Jardin Henri Vinay and the Cathedral: unique musical settings

Among the most remarkable venues of the festival, the Jardin Henri Vinay regularly hosts the grand concert of the Conservatory students, sometimes gathering over a thousand musicians. The Notre-Dame du Puy Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site on the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route, offers an exceptional acoustic and heritage setting for concerts of gospel, sacred music, and vocal ensembles such as Exagroove, Ars Musica, the Choeur de la Cathédrale, and the Ensemble Sine Nomine.
