Multidisciplinary festival dedicated to the 50s, 60s, and 70s in the heart of Gévaudan
Since 2017, the MarveLoz' Pop Festival has established itself as one of the flagship cultural events in Lozère. Supported by the association Les Formicables, this multidisciplinary festival celebrates the world of the 50s, 60s, and 70s by reinterpreting it through the lens of contemporary creation. Located in the heart of Marvejols, the historic capital of Gévaudan, the festival transforms the town into a vast artistic and festive playground every summer.
The association Les Formicables, whose name is a nod to the famous furniture brand emblematic of the "Trente Glorieuses" (post-war economic boom), has been driven by a desire to offer a free, accessible, and unifying event in a rural area since its inception, contributing to the cultural animation of Gévaudan and the influence of Marvejols.
The festival stands out for the richness and diversity of its program. Music: pop, rock, indie, and retro concerts liven up the evenings under the stars. Street performances: companies and artists take over the streets and squares of Marvejols for parades, street theater, and happenings. Cinema: open-air screenings of cult films from the 50s to the 70s. Visual arts: exhibitions, installations, and visual creations inspired by vintage aesthetics. Dance: performances and introductory classes to retro dances.
Since the third edition, brass bands have been invited each year to animate the festival streets, leading to spectacular "Brass Band Battles" that have become one of the event's highlights.
During the day, the festival offers a market of creators and second-hand dealers specializing in vintage items, participatory workshops, exhibitions of retro vehicles (Rétromobiles), and activities for young audiences. Conviviality is at the heart of the event, with food stalls offering local specialties and a warm atmosphere that attracts an ever-growing audience.
The MarveLoz' Pop Festival is supported by the Occitanie Region, the Department of Lozère, and the municipality of Marvejols. It contributes to the cultural and economic dynamism of the area by attracting visitors from across the region and beyond. The festival collaborates with other local cultural associations and involves numerous volunteers, demonstrating the civic engagement that has driven it since its beginnings.
By car: Marvejols is located on the N88, about 30 minutes from Mende and 1h30 from Millau. From the A75 motorway, take exit 39 towards Marvejols.
By train: Marvejols station is served by the Clermont-Ferrand – Béziers line (ligne des Causses). Allow about 5 hours from Paris via Clermont-Ferrand.
The festival takes place outdoors in the town center of Marvejols. Access to street performances and daytime activities is free. Evening concerts may be subject to a voluntary contribution or a modest fee.
