A living arts festival in the heart of the Aube countryside
The Festival de Cussangy was born from the desire of the association "Cussangy en histoire(s)" to bring culture and the arts to life in this small village in the Aube countryside, located in the canton of Chaource. Far from the big urban stages, the festival has taken on the challenge of transforming the village's emblematic locations — church, village hall, Tree of Liberty and open-air spaces — into stages dedicated to the living arts. This unique approach creates a rare proximity between artists and the public, in a bucolic and warm setting.
Theater, concerts and recitals in historic venues
The Festival de Cussangy's program features a strong emphasis on theater, with regional and national companies taking over the village venues for intimate performances. Concerts and recitals are presented in various styles, from French chanson to world music, including voice and guitar recitals. The village church, with its remarkable acoustics, hosts exceptional musical performances, such as recitals by the Hall de la Chanson featuring original creations blending poetry and music.
Storytelling, dance and exhibitions: a multidisciplinary program
Beyond theater and music, the Festival de Cussangy explores the performing arts through storytelling and reading sessions, which bring local and universal heritage stories and legends to life. Dance also plays a key role in the program, with introductions to traditional and folk dances offered by associations like Folkafon from Troyes, followed by participatory balls. Exhibitions by local and regional artists are presented throughout the weekend, enriching the festival's cultural offerings.
A village spirit, authentic encounters
The soul of the Festival de Cussangy lies in its village spirit and the quality of the encounters it fosters. The festival's inauguration, accompanied by the opening of the exhibitions, sets the tone for a weekend of conviviality and sharing. Performances follow one another in a relaxed atmosphere, and exchanges between artists and spectators naturally extend over a drink or a shared meal. This human-scale festival proves that culture can flourish everywhere, even in the smallest villages, and that the authenticity of a place can enhance the power of a performance.
