The great festival of the AOP Chasselas grape and the fruit terroirs of Quercy
The Moissac Fruit and Flavors Festival is the unmissable annual event of the abbey city, celebrating the AOP Chasselas grape, the first table grape in France to receive the AOC label. Every mid-September, around 165 producers take over the historic heart of Moissac for two days of markets, tastings, a giant Chasselas tart, jam competitions, and concerts. A free event celebrating the fruity and gastronomic excellence of Tarn-et-Garonne.
Each year in September, Moissac fervently celebrates its fruity treasure: the Chasselas de Moissac AOP, France's first table grape to obtain Protected Designation of Origin. The Fruit and Flavors Festival is much more than a simple market: it is the living showcase of a region whose identity is inseparable from its orchards and its market gardening know-how passed down through generations.
Organized in the historic heart of Moissac — a stone's throw from the famous Saint-Pierre abbey and its UNESCO World Heritage Romanesque cloister — the festival brings together 165 producers from all over Tarn-et-Garonne and Quercy each year to offer the best of their produce: Chasselas grapes, peaches, plums, melons, heirloom tomatoes, artisanal jams, fruit juices, honeys, and local products.
The 2025 edition, the 34th of its name, was held on September 13 and 14, 2025 in the streets and squares of Moissac town center. Two days of festivities brought together thousands of visitors to celebrate the end of the fruit season and the full maturity of the Chasselas AOP, whose first golden bunches have adorned stalls since mid-August.
The Fruit and Flavors Festival offers a rich and varied program each year:
Chasselas de Moissac has been cultivated since the Middle Ages in the alluvial terraces along the Tarn and Garonne rivers. Recognized as AOC as early as 1952 — the first French table grape to receive this distinction — and then AOP at the European level, it benefits from a defined territory, strictly regulated cultivation practices, and exclusively manual harvesting. Its golden skin, firm flesh, and sweet, low-acid taste make it an exceptional product prized by gourmets.
With over 600 hectares of vines spread across about forty communes, the Moissac sector represents a pillar of the agricultural economy of Tarn-et-Garonne. The festival is an opportunity for consumers to meet directly the winegrowers and fruit growers who keep this exceptional agricultural heritage alive.
The festival takes place in the heart of a city steeped in history. Moissac is world-renowned for its Saint-Pierre Abbey, a masterpiece of 11th-century Romanesque art, whose sculpted tympanum on the south portal is considered one of the pinnacles of world Romanesque sculpture. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site on the Routes of Santiago de Compostela, the abbey welcomes hundreds of thousands of pilgrims and tourists each year. The Fruit and Flavors Festival naturally fits into this tradition of hospitality and sharing that has characterized Moissac for centuries.
35th edition of the Moissac Fruit and Flavors Festival, scheduled for September 12 and 13, 2026. Market of 165 producers, AOP Chasselas, giant tart, jam competition, and free concerts in the historic center of Moissac.
The Moissac Fruit and Flavors Festival returns for its 35th edition on September 12 and 13, 2026. The historic center of Moissac will once again host its 165 producers for two days of gourmet market centered around the Moissac AOP Chasselas and all the fruits and flavors of Tarn-et-Garonne. Giant Chasselas tart, artisanal jam competition, free concerts, family entertainment, and direct sales from producers: a festive and gourmet event not to be missed in Quercy.
