Festival de la Terre: The biggest agricultural festival in Seine-et-Marne

For nearly forty years, the Festival de la Terre de Seine-et-Marne has been the annual gathering for anyone who loves the land, farming, and rural life. Organized by the Young Farmers of Seine-et-Marne (JA 77), this traveling festival is held every September in a different town, showcasing the diverse terroir of the Seine-et-Marne region.

A day of fun for the whole family

The Festival de la Terre is, above all, a popular family celebration that brings city dwellers and rural residents together to discover the world of farming. The event is famous for its spectacular and fun-filled activities:

  • Combine Harvester Racing (Moiss'batt'cross): A race of combine harvesters on a specially designed track—a unique mechanical spectacle that always thrills the crowd.
  • Tractor rides: Climb aboard a tractor to get a feel for the driver's seat of these impressive agricultural machines.
  • Helicopter rides: Soar over the Seine-et-Marne countryside to admire the farmland from above.
  • Carriage rides: A bucolic trip through country lanes in a horse-drawn carriage.
  • Petting zoo: A chance for children to meet farm animals, including cows, sheep, chickens, pigs, and donkeys.

The local produce market

The pop-up market featuring local goods is a highlight of the day. Producers from Seine-et-Marne showcase and sell their specialties: Brie cheeses (Meaux and Melun AOP), honey, cider, apple juice, jams, seasonal vegetables, farm-raised meats, and artisanal breads. It is the perfect opportunity for visitors to head home with a basket full of Brie delicacies.

The giant raffle

The "Game of 1,000 Prizes" is an unmissable festival tradition. This massive raffle features exceptional prizes donated by agricultural partners and local businesses, creating a shared moment of excitement for the entire crowd.

Young Farmers: A commitment to the future

The festival is run by the Young Farmers of Seine-et-Marne, a union representing farmers under 35. Through this event, the JA aim to achieve two goals: to promote the farming profession to the general public and to bridge the gap between rural and urban worlds in a department that, despite being the largest in Île-de-France, often sees its agriculture go unnoticed by city residents.

A traveling festival across the department

Every year, the festival sets up in a different town in Seine-et-Marne, chosen by the organizing committee. This rotation highlights the various landscapes of the department, from the wheat fields of the Brie to the Gâtinais, the cheese-producing Brie, and the Bocage briard. Following Villebéon in 2025 in the south of the department, the 38th edition will take place in Courpalay, in the heart of the Brie, on September 12 and 13, 2026—organized this year by the young farmers of central Seine-et-Marne.
