Chamber music in the heart of Haut-Doubs since 1988
Created in 1988 by the Ensemble Galitzine, the Festival de Musique du Haut-Doubs offers chamber music concerts every summer in heritage sites in the Val de Morteau and Haut-Doubs region. Under the artistic direction of Anne Mercier, eight passionate musicians explore a vast repertoire ranging from sonatas to octets, from classical to contemporary. Concerts take place in churches, theaters, and museum-farms in the region, offering an intimate and authentic musical experience in the heart of the Jura mountains.
The Festival de Musique du Haut-Doubs was born in 1988 from the passion of the Ensemble Galitzine, a group of eight musicians brought together since 1989 around chamber music. Under the artistic direction of violinist Anne Mercier, the ensemble combines strings, winds, and piano, allowing it to cover an extremely vast repertoire ranging from the classical and romantic periods to the most contemporary compositions.
One of the unique features of this festival is its itinerant nature within the Haut-Doubs. Concerts are held in places steeped in history and character: the Théâtre municipal de Morteau, the village churches like Montlebon, the Ferme-musée de Grandfontaine in Grandcombe-Châteleu, or the town halls of Villers-le-Lac and Les Gras. This project, titled “Music in the Heart of the Villages”, is carried out in partnership with the Communauté de Communes du Val de Morteau.
Each edition of the festival offers an ambitious program mixing the great works of the chamber music repertoire: Mozart, Bach, Brahms, Fauré, Ravel, Schumann, Liszt, Hindemith are featured alongside lesser-known or contemporary composers. The ensembles vary from duos to sextets, offering a palette of sounds of great richness. Musical activities for children complete the program.
The ensemble brings together talented musicians: Anne Mercier and Magali Carrière on violin, Alain Pélissier on viola, Florian Lauridon on cello, Basile Bratos on clarinet, Dominique Dournaud on oboe, Isabelle Dubuis and Fuminori Tanada on piano. Together, they have been leading this festival for over thirty years, making chamber music shine in the Haut-Doubs.
The 38th edition of the Festival de Musique du Haut-Doubs will take place in August 2026. The Ensemble Galitzine will offer a new series of chamber music concerts in the heritage sites of the Haut-Doubs, from Morteau to Villers-le-Lac.
