The National Day and Environment Festival of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges
Villeneuve-Saint-Georges annually celebrates its major popular festivals: the Environment Festival in May at the municipal nurseries with its theme of water and its mobile farm, and the National Day on July 14th with a picnic in Place de l'Europe, children's disco, lantern parade, and fireworks at Stade Clément Ader. Free and family-friendly festivities for everyone.
Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, with approximately 33,000 inhabitants in the Val-de-Marne, is a popular town with a long tradition of community festivals. Historically known for its role as an important railway hub—it's one of the largest SNCF depots in France—and for its working-class traditions, the town maintains a popular festive culture rooted in the values of solidarity and sharing. The Villeneuve-Saint-Georges Festival is the expression of this collective identity, which is popular, ecological, and festive.
The town hall of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, under the leadership of Mayor Kristell Niasme, organizes an ambitious festive calendar each year that spans the major seasons with quality events, accessible to all and full of meaning. Two major festivals stand out in this calendar: the Environment Festival in spring and the National Day in July.
In spring, Villeneuve-Saint-Georges enthusiastically celebrates its Environment Festival, an original event that combines ecological awareness with popular festivities. The festival is usually held on the third Saturday and Sunday of May, from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM, at the Municipal Nurseries, in an exceptional natural setting that is itself a symbol of the town's plant-rich heritage.
Each year, a theme structures the program: in 2025, water was chosen, explored through workshops, exhibitions, and educational activities on the water cycle, aquatic environments, and the preservation of water resources. The festival features a mobile farm that delights children with farm animals, nature discovery workshops, and outdoor play areas.
The Environment Festival also extends to the neighborhoods from May 19th to 27th, with a mobile tour in neighborhood spaces offering itinerant activities: mobile farm, creative and fun workshops from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This mobile dimension of the festival allows reaching residents who cannot travel to the Nurseries and bringing the festival closer to the people.
The National Day on July 14th is the other major popular celebration in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges. Mayor Kristell Niasme and the municipal team invite all residents to a rich and varied festive evening. Starting at 5:00 PM, a July 14th ceremony is held at the Théâtre de Verdure. From 7:00 PM, food trucks are set up in Place de l'Europe, and a friendly picnic brings residents together with tablecloths and cutlery provided.
At 8:30 PM, the children's disco sets the festive tone for the younger ones, who can dance and have fun in a suitable atmosphere. At 10:00 PM, the lantern procession departs from Place de l'Europe towards Stade Clément Ader, creating a poetic and festive luminous procession through the town's streets. Upon arrival at the stadium, the fireworks conclude the evening with a spectacular pyrotechnic finale.
Villeneuve-Saint-Georges stands out for its commitment to popular festivals accessible to all. All summer activities are offered free of charge, in line with the municipal philosophy that considers culture and celebration as rights for all citizens. The town also organizes neighborhood events, cultural activities, and local celebrations throughout the year that keep this popular festive culture alive.
The 2026 Villeneuve-Saint-Georges Festival will again offer the Environment Festival in the spring at the Municipal Nurseries and the National Day on July 14th with a picnic, children's disco, lantern parade, and fireworks at Stade Clément Ader. All activities are free.
The Villeneuve-Saint-Georges Festival 2026 will offer a new Environment Festival at the Municipal Nurseries in the spring, with a renewed theme and educational and festive activities for the whole family. The National Day on July 14th will bring residents together at Place de l'Europe with a picnic, children's disco, lantern parade, and fireworks at Stade Clément Ader, in the town's popular festive tradition.
