The big gaming event of Cantal
The Festival des Jeux de Murat is a festival entirely dedicated to board games, organized by the association Le Pion du Cantal in the Halle de Murat. For a weekend in April, young and old gather to play continuously from Saturday afternoon to Sunday evening. Board games, role-playing games, wooden games, video games, escape games, tournaments and championships: the program offers a complete and accessible gaming experience for everyone, with free entry.
Created in 2023 by the association Le Pion du Cantal, the Festival des Jeux de Murat has quickly established itself as a major family event in the Cantal cultural landscape. Held in the Halle de Murat, a heritage building in the heart of this small characterful town, the festival offers an entire weekend of continuous gaming, from Saturday 1 PM to Sunday 6 PM, in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
The festival offers a remarkably diverse gaming selection. Lively board game tables allow visitors to discover the latest releases as well as the great classics, guided by passionate facilitators. Tournaments with prizes are organized throughout the weekend, including the French Crokinole Championship, a spectacular discipline combining skill and strategy.
Fans of role-playing games and escape games will also find something to enjoy, with dedicated sessions requiring registration. Oversized wooden games set up in the hall offer a play area accessible to younger children. A video game space completes the offering for gaming enthusiasts.
The Festival des Jeux de Murat stands out for its commitment to accessibility. Games adapted for people with disabilities are offered, and facilitators ensure that every visitor is welcomed in the best possible conditions. Screen printing workshops and other creative activities enrich the program.
The association Le Pion du Cantal, founded in Murat, enlivens the local gaming scene throughout the year. Every Tuesday evening, it organizes gaming nights at the bakery Du Pain et des Jeux, an unusual place that combines delicious food and playful conviviality. The April festival is the highlight of this associative activity, bringing together around 1,000 visitors over the weekend.
Entry is free (donation-based), with visitors free to contribute to the festival's funding via a donation box or the refreshment stand. The bookstore L'Angle Du Jeu from Aurillac is present for game sales, and some publishers also offer their creations.
The 4th edition of the Festival des Jeux de Murat will be held on April 18 and 19, 2026, at the Halle de Murat. A full weekend dedicated to board games, role-playing games, escape games, and tournaments, running continuously from Saturday 1 PM to Sunday 6 PM, with free entry.
