The Cornet de Murat, a biscuit at the heart of Cantalian tradition

The Cornet de Murat is a dry and soft biscuit, shaped hot into a small horn, made from eggs, sugar, and flour, with no coloring or preservatives. This artisanal know-how, once held by Cantalian grandmothers, has been passed down from generation to generation in the bakeries of Murat. It was to celebrate and perpetuate this local delicacy that the Fête du Cornet was created in 2004.

A festival that has become a must-see in Auvergne

Since its creation, the Fête du Cornet de Murat has experienced remarkable growth. What was initially a local initiative has become one of the most popular gourmet events in Cantal and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. In 2024, for the 20th edition, no less than 24,000 cornets were made for the occasion, and the event attracted nearly 20,000 visitors to the streets of the medieval town.

A festive and gourmet program

The day runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and offers a rich and varied program. The heart of the event lies in the sale and tasting of filled cornets: Murat's artisan bakers and pastry chefs prepare thousands of cornets filled with creams, mousses, fruits, and other gourmet fillings. A large market of pastry and local products brings together about twenty stalls in the streets of the town center.

There is no shortage of entertainment: street performances, bands, concerts, face painting for children, carousels, and artistic parades liven up the town throughout the day. A hundred artists take over the alleys and squares of Murat to create a festive and friendly atmosphere. Special "cornet" menus are offered by the town's restaurateurs.

Murat, a medieval setting at the foot of the Monts du Cantal

The town of Murat, a small town of character nestled at the foot of the Rocher de Bonnevie at an altitude of 930 meters, offers an exceptional setting for this gourmet celebration. Its picturesque alleys, its turreted houses, and its remarkable medieval heritage are adorned with the colors and flavors of the cornet for a day. The festival contributes to the tourist and gastronomic influence of the Hautes Terres du Cantal region.

The association Le Cornet de Murat

Since 2008, the association Le Cornet de Murat has been organizing this event with the support of the Mairie de Murat and numerous volunteers. The association works throughout the year to promote this unique pastry heritage and prepare each new edition of the festival. Admission is completely free, making the event accessible to all audiences, from families to passing gourmets.

Fête du Cornet — edition 2026

The 22nd edition of the Fête du Cornet de Murat will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, the third Sunday of September. An unmissable gourmet event in Cantal, the festival will bring together thousands of visitors around the cornet, Murat's iconic biscuit, with tastings, street performances, bands, and a local market.

22nd Fête du Cornet de Murat

The 22nd edition of the Fête du Cornet de Murat will take place on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in the streets of the historic center of Murat, at the foot of the Rocher de Bonnevie.

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., visitors can taste filled cornets, browse the market of pastry and local products, and enjoy a rich entertainment program: street performances, bands, concerts, face painting for children, and special menus in restaurants.
