Intimate classical music festival in Louveciennes, founded by pianist Ingmar Lazar
Created in 2016 by pianist Ingmar Lazar, the Festival du Bruit qui Pense is a unique winter event dedicated to classical music in the town of Louveciennes, 17 km from Paris and 8 km from Versailles. Every year in February, the Salle Camille Saint-Saëns hosts international soloists and promising young talents for a week of intimate chamber concerts followed by discussions with the artists. Under the patronage of prestigious figures such as Vladimir Spivakov, Éric Heidsieck, and Brigitte Fossey, the festival combines musical excellence, conviviality, and accessibility, with free admission for under-18s.
The Festival du Bruit qui Pense was born in March 2016 from the initiative of Franco-Latvian pianist Ingmar Lazar, driven by the conviction that classical music should be shared with as many people as possible, in a warm and barrier-free setting. The festival's name, borrowed from Victor Hugo – "Music is noise that thinks" – summarizes this philosophy: to make each concert a moment of thought, emotion, and encounter.
The concerts are held in the Salle Camille Saint-Saëns, located in the Louveciennes town hall, at 30 rue du Général Leclerc. This human-sized hall offers remarkable acoustics and a proximity to the artists that make the festival unique. Louveciennes, an Impressionist village located between Paris and Versailles, provides a bucolic and inspiring setting for this musical week.
Since its creation, the festival has hosted leading performers: pianists Cyprien Katsaris and Mūza Rubackytė, harpist Anaëlle Tourret, violinist Christoph Seybold, cellist Alexander Hülshoff, soprano Magali Léger, and many others. The festival's originality lies in the moderated discussions that follow each concert: the audience can interact directly with the musicians, creating a unique dialogue between artists and music lovers.
The festival benefits from the support of an exceptional honorary committee bringing together personalities from the musical and cultural world: violinists Vladimir Spivakov and Ivry Gitlis (passed away in 2020), pianists Éric Heidsieck and Danielle Laval, and actress Brigitte Fossey. This patronage illustrates the recognition the festival enjoys in the world of classical music.
The festival is not limited to recitals. Each edition features visual arts exhibitions and literary encounters related to music, enriching the cultural experience for visitors. Dedicated sessions for young audiences contribute to the mission of transmission and musical awakening that has driven the festival since its origins.
The 10th edition of the Festival du Bruit qui Pense will take place from February 7 to 15, 2026, in Louveciennes. For this anniversary, the festival will host pianists Cyprien Katsaris, Ingmar Lazar, and Mūza Rubackytė, harpist Anaëlle Tourret, violinist Christoph Seybold, cellist Alexander Hülshoff, soprano Magali Léger, and the ArteLab ensemble, accompanied by an exhibition of paintings by Michel Gilbert.
