The big animation film celebration in Drôme-Ardèche
Created in 1995, the Festival d'un Jour is a major event dedicated to animated film, organized every year in March by L'Équipée from La Cartoucherie in Bourg-lès-Valence. For six days, the festival screens over 100 animated films — shorts and features — in about fifteen partner venues across ten municipalities in Drôme and Ardèche. Free and open to all, it offers international screenings, cine-concerts, workshops, virtual reality spaces, and meetings with professionals.
Since 1995, the Festival d'un Jour has celebrated animation film in all its forms every March. Organized by the association L'Équipée from La Cartoucherie in Bourg-lès-Valence, this festival has become, in over thirty years, one of the unmissable events for animation film in France, attracting families, schools, and professionals.
Each edition of the Festival d'un Jour offers over 100 animated films, mixing short films and features, contemporary works and little-known gems of world animation. The program highlights the diversity of animation techniques: cartoons, stop-motion, digital animation, animated puppets, cut-outs... The festival is also a place for discovery and encounters between audiences and creators, with special screenings, previews, and competitions.
Beyond screenings, the Festival d'un Jour offers a varied complementary program: cine-concerts mixing live music and animated images, virtual reality spaces for an immersive animation experience, creation workshops for young and old, and meetings with professionals from the Animated Image Center through studio tours and presentations of ongoing projects.
The Festival d'un Jour radiates across about fifteen partner venues spread across ten municipalities in Drôme and Ardèche: Bourg-lès-Valence, Valence, Chabeuil, Romans-sur-Isère, La Voulte-sur-Rhône, Privas, and many others. This strong territorial presence allows it to reach diverse audiences, from urban centers to rural towns, and to bring animation film to life closer to the residents.
The Festival d'un Jour is free (upon membership to the L'Équipée association) and open to all. This accessibility is at the heart of the festival's project, which aims to democratize access to animation film and raise awareness among as many people as possible about this constantly evolving art form. School screenings welcome thousands of students from kindergarten to high school each year.
The 32nd edition of the Festival d'un Jour will take place from March 23 to 28, 2026, in Drôme-Ardèche. The guest of honor will be Drôme filmmaker Pierre-Luc Granjon, and the edition will pay tribute to extreme animation techniques.
