Eco-responsible festival of reggae, ska, and world music in Brûlain
Since 2014, the small village of Brûlain, with 700 inhabitants twenty minutes from Niort, has vibrated every July to the sounds of reggae, ska, and world music thanks to the En Terres Brûlées festival. Supported by the Foyer Rural de Brûlain, this eco-responsible and family-friendly festival offers two days of open-air concerts in a warm and friendly atmosphere, at deliberately accessible prices. From Ryon to Tiken Jah Fakoly, including discoveries from the French reggae scene, En Terres Brûlées proves that a small village can achieve great things when passion and solidarity drive its inhabitants.
In Brûlain, a rural commune of 700 inhabitants nestled in the countryside of Deux-Sèvres, a handful of volunteers from the Foyer Rural took on the ambitious challenge of creating a music festival in the middle of the countryside. Since 2014, the Festival En Terres Brûlées has welcomed hundreds of festival-goers every summer, over a July weekend, to vibrate to the rhythms of reggae, ska, dub, and world music.
What began as an ambitious village fête has become, over eleven editions, a recognized event in the contemporary music festival scene in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The secret to this success? Remarkable collective commitment, quality musical programming, and a deep attachment to the values of friendliness, eco-responsibility, and accessibility that form the festival's identity.
The programming at the Festival En Terres Brûlées deliciously blends the different facets of Jamaican music and world sounds. Reggae is the musical cornerstone of the festival, featuring iconic artists from the French scene like Ryon, whose sunny melodies and committed lyrics perfectly embody the festival's spirit. Ska, dub, afrobeat, and mixed-genre music complete an eclectic lineup that takes festival-goers on a journey without leaving the countryside.
En Terres Brûlées champions an eco-responsible approach that permeates all aspects of the organization: waste sorting, reusable tableware, sourcing from short supply chains with local producers, and raising public awareness about environmental issues. This ecological consciousness, driven by the volunteers of the Foyer Rural, makes the festival a model of responsible cultural event in a rural setting.
Beyond the concerts, En Terres Brûlées transforms the village of Brûlain into a place of celebration and sharing. On-site catering highlights local products from the Deux-Sèvres region, the bar offers local and artisanal drinks, and the general atmosphere exudes friendliness and good cheer. The festival is designed to be family-friendly: children are welcome, and activities are dedicated to them.
Driven by a team of volunteers from the Foyer Rural de Brûlain, the festival benefits from the support of the municipality, the Haut Val de Sèvre Community of Communes, and local partners. Ticketing, managed through the HelloAsso platform, remains deliberately at accessible prices to open the festival to as many people as possible.
The 12th edition of the Festival En Terres Brûlées is expected in July 2026 in Brûlain. The eco-responsible festival will offer a new weekend of reggae, ska, and world music in the open air in the village of Deux-Sèvres.
