The jazz event of Champagne at the heart of Lac du Der
The Festival Jazz Ô Der is an annual musical event that takes place in Montier-en-Der, in Haute-Marne, in the heart of Champagne. Created in 2008 by a non-profit association, this festival brings together jazz, blues, swing, gypsy jazz, and boogie-woogie musicians every March at the town's Socio-Cultural Center. For three days, jazz lovers gather for high-quality concerts in a warm and friendly atmosphere, making Jazz Ô Der a must-attend event on the Grand Est jazz scene.
Since 2008, the Festival Jazz Ô Der has enlivened the town of Montier-en-Der every spring, nestled at the gates of Lac du Der-Chantecoq, the largest artificial lake in France. Supported by a non-profit association registered with the Prefecture of Haute-Marne since February 14, 2007, this festival has become, over the years, an unmissable event for jazz enthusiasts in the Grand Est region.
Jazz Ô Der stands out for the diversity of its musical program. The festival features Big Bands, 50s swing, blues, gypsy jazz, and boogie-woogie. Each edition offers a selection of nationally and internationally renowned artists, providing spectators with a comprehensive overview of the different facets of jazz.
Over the years, the festival has hosted various ensembles ranging from intimate quartets to large-scale orchestras. The 2025 edition notably featured the Black Rooster Orchestra, an original fusion of big band and rock, the Galaad Moutoz Orchestra with singer Anna Stevens for a swing evoking the Saint-Germain-des-Prés clubs, English bluesman Big Boy Bloater, the gypsy jazz ensemble Sinti Swing with Romanian violinist Costel Nitescu, and boogie-woogie pianist Ladyva, voted best boogie-woogie pianist in the world in 2017.
The festival unfolds over three days, from Friday to Sunday. Friday and Saturday evenings begin at 8:45 PM with two successive concerts, while Sunday offers an afternoon session starting at 4:00 PM. Each day features two distinct sets, allowing festival-goers to discover two different bands or artists per performance.
The concerts are held at the Pôle Socio-Culturel de Montier-en-Der, a friendly space that fosters proximity between musicians and the audience. This venue allows for high-quality listening in an intimate atmosphere, characteristic of human-scale jazz festivals.
The Festival Jazz Ô Der benefits from the support of numerous institutional partners: La Porte du Der, Saint-Dizier Agglomération, the Department of Haute-Marne, the Grand Est Region, and ANDRA. These partnerships demonstrate the cultural importance of the festival for the Champagne region and contribute to its sustainability.
