La Maison Africaine: West Africa in the heart of the Landes

The La Maison Africaine festival was born from the desire of the Txikan association, based in Saubrigues, to create an annual event celebrating West African cultures. Txikan, whose name means "the sound that travels," offers percussion and African dance classes and performances throughout the year with a communicative energy that transports audiences to the heart of West Africa.

A Participatory and Immersive Festival

La Maison Africaine stands out for its deeply participatory nature. The festival doesn't just offer shows to watch: it invites everyone to practice, discover, and experience African artistic disciplines:

  • Percussion Workshops: learning djembé and dununs (bass drums) with renowned masters
  • Dance Workshops: introduction and advanced classes in traditional West African dances
  • Singing Workshops: discovering traditional polyphonies and songs
  • Concerts: musical encounters with local and international artists
  • African Gastronomy: meals and tastings of traditional dishes

Exceptional Masters

Each edition of La Maison Africaine invites great masters of the artistic disciplines taught by the Txikan association. These internationally renowned artists come to share their expertise during intensive workshops and concerts, offering participants an authentic, high-level experience. The festival is also an opportunity to bring together a large community of percussion and dance practitioners from the Landes department and neighboring areas.

School Interventions

The festival also includes an educational component with awareness-raising activities in regional schools, allowing younger generations to discover West African instruments and rhythms.

A Place for Intercultural Encounters

Organized at the Salle La Mamisèle and the Pôle Sud in Saubrigues, the festival creates a space for intercultural encounters where African traditions meet Landes conviviality. Shared meals, outdoor concerts, and open workshops foster exchange and mutual discovery in a warm and festive spirit.
